Kylian Mbappe apologises after ‘dictator’ comment angers Chinese fans

Mao was one of the few historical figures who genuinely/strongly pushed for black people's civil rights and freedom from the colonialism.

Before people start throwing the 1% drop race card...

Fayza Lamari..his mother

Mbappe should be grateful, otherwise he wouldn't have a chance to obtain his fame and wealth, also banging his white girlfriend freely.

So what's the controversy
They don't like the meme or moa being referred to as a dictator
Mao memes have been around for decades now and they were popular throughout the world
So was the Michael Jordan crying meme
Like I'm talking about as far back as the 2000s

What's the issue? Thr Chinese dictator reference? That seems controversial imo

Meme not so much, I mean everyones been using it since forever

Mao has eliminated many parasitic landlords from the old China.

And these people treated the Chinese farmers literally as their slaves.

They were also the biggest roadblock for China's industrialization.

Some of their descendants have fled to the west, and they hate Mao and PRC with passion and pure blood feud hatred.

To be honest, I am also a descendant of the KMT Chinese landlords, and although Mao and his friends have completely deprived my family's ancestral wealth, but from China's perspective, he was right. I don't want to inherit the wealth that I didn't earn or deserve.

MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid apologized to the Chinese people Wednesday following Kylian Mbappé’s remarks that were considered to be disrespectful of Mao Zedong, the founding leader of Communist China.

Madrid’s apology came a day after Mbappé expressed regret over his comments amid a fallout over the issue.

“Real Madrid C.F. wishes to express its apologies to the Chinese people for any discomfort that may have been caused by the recent words of our player Kylian Mbappé,” the club said in a statement.

“Our club holds deep respect for China, its history, its culture, and its citizens, as well as for the millions of Chinese fans who feel affection and admiration for Real Madrid.”
In an online interview, Mbappé had talked about his favorite meme of himself and apparently referred to Mao Zedong as “a Chinese dictator.”

There was immediate backlash and the France striker lost brand deals with at least three different Chinese companies. He later said his comment was “ill-judged” and “I now understand that it hurt many people in China and in Chinese communities” around the world.

Madrid said it “joins the public apology” expressed by Mbappé.

"Real Madrid reaffirms its commitment to the values of respect, coexistence, and understanding among cultures, and expresses its desire to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship and affection that unite it with China and its citizens,” the club said.

China Media Group (CMG) had said it suspended broadcasts of matches in the Spanish league and other games featuring the superstar player, and demanded an apology from La Liga, Mbappé and Madrid.

CMG said it received the apology from Madrid, without adding further comment.

The Spanish league has also apologized.

China’s Foreign Ministry said Wednesday it took Mbappé's apology “seriously” but it remained to be seen whether it would help him regain the brand deals or other businesses he lost Tuesday.

Everybody knows more or less who was Mao. The problem It is not Mao. The problem it is when you have brainless childs (he is a kid) with no education and playing himself as leader or someone important.

He is stupid enough to do It with the Pope or even make fun of others. You cannot insult feelings of others, specifically if those others are not insulting no one and respect you as you should do with him.

Are people angry about the meme or the dictator reference?
I didn't like the Chinese dictator reference either because I think he is kinda like George Washington, ataturk or Jinnah typa person for China
So I can understand why that is disrespectful
But memes are fine
Every country does it to some extent
It can even be a form of endearment
We have Jinnah memes, George Washington memes
Hell I saw Indian AI where they had ghandhi playing soccer
It's funny

I think people didn't like the "Chinese dictator" part
Which is reasonable

I think China's main purpose isn't to harass Mbappe or Real Madrid.

Something big is about to happen, mostly related to Taiwan.

But I am not 100% sure right now, but it looks like an ideological consolidation before a huge mobilization.

Most people in China don't like to make fun of George Washington or Abraham Lincoln, even they were the historical leaders of an adversarial nation.

The culture is a bit different.

Let me ask a rather provocative question.

If you believe it is perfectly reasonable for a public figure—who earns a fortune in China—to publicly disparage Mao Zedong, a figure revered by the Chinese people, then how would you feel if, one day, we were to mock "Allah"—a figure held sacred in your own heart?

I suspect you would tear me to shreds!

So, what makes you think that China's sanctions against Mbappe are unreasonable?

Problem is, Mbappe is one of, if not the most influential footballer out there at the moment. Before this, those memes were mostly confined to the fanbase. Now it's basically confirmation straight from the guy himself.

Most influencers and stars are mostly illiterate except being a performer/entertainer who can earn load of money.

Any disrespect toward China's leaders is an insult to the 1.4 billion Chinese people. Whoever you are, wherever you are from—this line is non-negotiable. Chairman Mao is my idol!

One's a man - whose equivalents are George Washington, ataturk, ghandhi etc
Just men - people have made fun of them through memes ever since internet's been around
ALL OF EM- George Washington has also been disparaged here in the States for being a slave owner and what not

You're going in another realm if religion where people usually try not to cross that line any where in the world
It's a different realm

The only controversy here is a famous soccer player calling him a Chinese dictator
That's disrespectful

Not the meme itself
NBA fanbase had a similar mao meme for LeBron James
That's just Internet culture can't take offense to that if you're participating in the globalized Internet

Hell even ghandhis been clowned so many times by Indians themselves

But for a big time player to say that and call him a dictator
Yes that's wrong and disrespectful

This i agree with
Cause the first mao meme I saw was actually with LeBron James
But he never really reacted to that or called him a dictator or anything
It was just part of Internet and fanbase thing

To me, he’s utterly worthless—essentially just an uneducated person packaged by capital, a product of consumerism.
