The Italian company "Fincantieri" signs major partnerships in Saudi Arabia

1738142955493.jpeg

27 January 2025: "Vinkanterei", one of the most prominent shipbuilding groups in the world, has announced the signing of a series of memoranda of understanding in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These understandings reflect the company's commitment to the region, after the establishment of its "Vinkanteeri Arab Marine Services" branch in 2024.

The agreements confirm the strategic commitment of "Vincantery" to support innovation, sustainability and industrial development through cooperation with Saudi entities and international partners. These partnerships are in line with the Kingdom's 2030 vision, and the role of "Vincanterei" is highlighted as the only group in the field of shipbuilding that operates in all sectors of high -tech marine industries, relying on an integrated employment model and its experience in the markets of marine flights, marine platforms, and defense.

"These agreements confirm our strong commitment to the region and our willingness to explore new job opportunities across our three main sectors, with a special focus on defense. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia quickly turns into a global marine technology center, and we are proud to cooperate with Saudi entities to take advantage of our vast capabilities. Together, we seek to enhance innovation and sustainability while contributing to achieving the ambitious goals of the 2030 vision. ”

There was talk about a tactical ballistic missile and a cruise missile both in development locally by Saudi hands and brains..
I remember widely reported cooperation with Ukraine before the war as well. Dating back some 7-8 years if not more. Apparently it was a joint project albeit with some setbacks from Ukraine but eventually they developed something potent/credible and IP was shared with KSA and later SAMI (ages ago) came up with remarkably similar designs. I guess later developments remain a secret.

Recalled it now:

At the same time you have news such as this one:

Good news in regards to Turkey as well. Aligns well with the many strategic Saudi Arabian investments within Turkey in key sectors, propping up the Turkish lira and economy by depositing billions in the Turkish central bank, investments in private defence firms etc. I also wrote that KSA and Turkey naturally align on most topics in the region and I always believe that whatever disagreements existed were not major ones or not ones that could not be fixed. We saw that recently in Syria where there has been no doubt been close cooperation. It is/was blatantly obvious that both KSA and Turkey played the largest role in the transformation of Syria.

Italian Prime Minister, Georgia Meloni, announced that Italy supports Saudi Arabia's accession to the upcoming GCAP fighters program, which currently includes Italy, Britain and Japan, according to Reuters.

Meloni confirmed during her recent visit to Saudi Arabia that the Kingdom's joining this project, which is worth billions of euros, will take time, noting that the details of the agreement need more discussions between the three institutions.

Meloni explained, during her visit to Bahrain, saying: "We support Saudi Arabia's entry into the program, but that will not be immediate," stressing that the project requires accurate arrangements before joining a fourth country.

The GCAP project (Global Combat Air Programme) is one of the most prominent defensive projects in the world, as it aims to develop an advanced fighter that combines artificial intelligence technologies and modern warplanes. It is expected that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will have a major role in this project, as it will become the only Arab and Islamic state that participates in the manufacture of parts of this latest fighter in the world.

This project is considered a tremendous technical and industrial challenge, as it is required that the participating countries possess huge military industrial capabilities. Saudi Arabia has distinguished capabilities in this field, thanks to the presence of companies specialized in producing military spare parts, electronic systems and their initial materials, which enhances its chances to play a pivotal role in manufacturing this fighter.

The GCAP project is classified as one of the largest international military projects, with the participation of major countries such as the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan, highlighting its strategic importance in promoting future defense capabilities.

Good and promising news as well. As I wrote in an earlier thread, KSA should go for all 3 options at the same time. F-35, KAAN and partnerships such as this one. All will strengthen KSA and help replace the entire RSAF arsenal long-term. As well as aid in the ongoing transformation and boom of the domestic military sector

In an important step, Italy allowed the Saudis to enter the fighter program after signing a ten billion dollar agreement, which enhances defensive cooperation between the two countries and opens new horizons for the Kingdom in the field of military aviation technology.

Saudi Arabia: The first in the region towards the sixth generation fighters

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the first country in the region to seek the acquisition and participation in the program of developing the sixth generation fighters, which reflects its leadership in modernizing its air forces and enhancing its defense capabilities with the latest advanced technologies, and this trend reflects the Kingdom's strategy to rely on the latest military innovations to ensure air superiority in the future.

The capabilities of advanced sixth generation fighters:

The sixth generation fighters have super capabilities that include:
  • Advanced stealth: a design reduces radar fingerprint, which makes its discovery more difficult.
  • High speed: the ability to fly at speeds that exceed the speed of sound.
  • Advanced weapons: equipped with modern weapons systems, including laser weapons.
  • Artificial Intelligence: Using artificial intelligence systems to support the pilot to make decisions.
  • Decreased communications systems: safe communications systems that allow coordination with other units and work as a flying center.

The advantages of Saudi Arabia's participation in the project

Saudi Arabia's joining the GCAP program holds many benefits, including:

- reinforcing defensive capabilities: obtaining the latest technology in the field of military aviation, which enhances the strength of the Saudi Air Force.

- Diversification of strategic partnerships: expanding relations with countries such as Britain, Italy, and Japan, which opens new horizons for cooperation in multiple areas.

- Development of the local industry: Participation in such projects may contribute to the transfer of technology and the development of the defense industries sector in the Kingdom, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.

Financial contribution: The Kingdom's ability to provide significant financial support to the project, which contributes to accelerating research and development.

Saudi Arabia's accession to the GCAP program, especially after signing the agreement with Italy, represents a qualitative leap in the development of its air and defensive capabilities, which puts it in the ranks of the leading countries in the field of military aviation, and that it is the first country in the region to seek the acquisition of the sixth generation fighters that enhance its position as a power.. An advanced military always seeks to keep pace with the latest technological developments in the field of air defense.

In addition, Saudi Arabia is holding talks with France to buy "Rafale" fighters and participate in the FCAS fighter program, which reflects the Kingdom's commitment to modernizing and developing its air forces.

Korean Press: Saudi Arabia shows its interest in submarine industries

1738312829898.jpeg

"Korean submarines are also good", Saudi Arabia's increasing interest in the Korean defense industry.

With the continued geopolitical conflict and the continued prosperity of the Korean defense industry, cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is also increasing. In particular, there are expectations that Saudi Arabia will be able to expand its exports more because they are concerned with submarines, in which local defense companies rarely enter.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was not interested in K submarines, and the current trend has changed.

The Korean delegation, which includes Siuk Jong Gon, managed the defensive acquisition program, Hanoa Airbis, Korea Space Industries (KAI), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Hanoa Ocean, visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the nineteenth of this month. On this day, the delegation met Khaled bin Hussein Al -Bayari, Deputy Minister of National Defense for Political Affairs, responsible for Saudi arms systems, and the next day at the Al Saud Minister. The delegation agreed to discuss specific cooperation plans with them by the end of this year.

In particular, this meeting was useful as there was an interest in submarine as well as the K2 tank and the K9 Howitzer, which is considered export products. When the Korean delegation proposed a local submarine weapons system, Saudi officials, including the Maritime Commander Al Ghariby, expressed interest.

Although Korea has its own capabilities in developing submarines, the performance of its exports has not yet been large. However, there are expectations that Korea will be able to expand its scope in the field of marine weapons thanks to this cooperation with Saudi Arabia.

Will this be the second submarine to be exported in history this year?
The last performance of submarine export was by Daewoo for Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, Hanwha Ocean, to Indonesia in 2011 and 2019. If HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean succeeded in winning requests for the Canadian Periodic Performance Project (CPSP), which is competing against this year, and the Orca project, the Polish navy submarine submarine project, this will be the second export in history. The size of each project is 70 trillion Won for the CPSP project and 3.4 trillion Won for the OCA project.

External cooperation in the field of submarines is already taking place. Last year, Hanwha Ocean signed a commercial agreement with the Polish Defense Group WB to cooperate in the field of submarine. Polish President André Doda visited the Hanwha Aerospace during his visit to Korea last year and was introduced to the Jang Bogo-II (KSS-III) submarine.
