I am surprised no one posted that Syria wants to join the Makkah Defense Alliance? It was a major news on Pakistan's Dawn.com and the NYTimes.com today.

Also read that in Dawn. Interesting development but I noted the mixed signalling from the Syrian politician (?foreign minister) regarding Israeli occupation of parts of Syria as we speak.

Presumably it is a Turkish led initiative.

I wonder if the aim of this announcement is to put more political pressure on Bibi rather than a genuine intent to "fast track" a semi-failed state into a formal defensive pact.

Either way, it's a clever announcement to make. It will cause panic in Tel Aviv at the very least, with further criticism of Bibi being inevitable for so stupidly putting Tel Aviv in a near suicidal position.

Yes, I think Turkey is closing in on Israel through Syria and Naftali Bennet knows that. Similarly, Pakistanis deployed in western Saudi Arabia is also closing in on Israel.
