The one thing I am unsure is if this Mecca pact 10-years too late or 10-years too early to make any difference in the region.

It comes at just the right time; Saudi Arabia (Saudi America) wasn't politically ready for such a pact. They had paid a great deal of money, hoping to become untouchable. The world has now reached a point where nothing else matters anymore. Money in the bank doesn't protect against missiles. Protection requires intelligence and technologically advanced weapons in large quantities.

The problem you've got with the iranian aligned sectarians, when it comes to killing Muslims they've always been exposed to have been making backdoor deals with the isrealis/americans. We've seen it in iraq, syria, afghanistan etc.
