Peoples often forgot how close Middle East countries and South Korea is.As i posted before, Egypt, Israel, UAE and Saudi Arabia is major partner in defense with South Korea.Most weapons deal between above countries with S.Korea is basically treated as secret first.For example, K239 long range rocket artillery system and it's missiles were exported to UAE and Saudi Arabia but, S.Korea silenced about it until they reveal it first.Recently, the Korean KTSSM missile beaten the Chinese NORINCO King Dragon 300 missile in competitions for unknown Middle East country(Saudi Arabia likely).And the enhanced version of the M-SAM-II air defense missile system exported to UAE and the negotiation with Saudi Arabia is now final phase.And now the UCAV, future fighter with Saudi Arabia.Once, there was an rumor about UAE joining the KF-21 but, this one also silenced. Such negotiations could be silenced again for the sake of the security and confusion.This history started from middle of Cold-War.

It depends on which American systems..
South Korea came a long way in developing its own advanced technologies and weapon systems..

i know but their foreign policy and all attachments stringed is limitation to strategic partnerships with particular countries.
for example lets say Iraq decide to equip their military fully with their systems in multi billion dollars deal, do you think that would happen?
they are under umbrella of usa and their sales are carefully considered in order to not jeopardize american interests.

Middle Eastern countries have a strong interest in K2 tanks, provided they are equipped with reliable local engines.

We expect the tank to come to Saudi Arabia in large numbers that may exceed 400 tanks..

This is possible because of the flexibility of the Koreans in transferring manufacturing techniques and technologies when compared to the Americans and Europeans..

Saudi Arabia has needed a main battle tank since the exit of the AMX30 which is out of service . and also the M60 is officially out of service, So the number of Abrams is not enough at all at the moment..

This is a strong option, as it competes with the best tanks in the world by incorporating very high and advanced technologies..

It is possible that KSA, the Emirates, and Egypt would agree to purchase this tank, and the technology will be transferred so as each country will manufacture part of it, with most of the technology transferred, because the quantity will not be less than 2,000 tanks for the three countries..

Many components of Korean weapon systems come from US suppliers, besides, buying from S.Korea is not different from buying from US, buyers are at a great risk of facing US sanctions when US sees fit, so why not just directly buy from US?

Maybe true for the FA-50 light fighter ..but not in the case of the tank K2.. it is 100% made in South Korea including canon and engine, transmission and electronics..
