Democrat Holden endorses Republican Sliwa for mayor, says Cuomo is ‘not the answer’​

Council Member Robert Holden has endorsed Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa, touting the Guardian Angels founder’s “decades of public service and straight talk.”

Sliwa is trailing far behind Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani and independent candidate and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in a three-way contest in the 2025 election, according to most polls.

Holden, however, stated that Sliwa has “earned the trust” of New Yorkers through his “long record” of public service as head of the volunteer patrol.

A conservative Democrat who has long opposed Mamdani’s nomination, Holden said Cuomo is “not the answer” to defeat Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist who is the clear frontrunner in the mayoral election.

“He (Cuomo) was the architect of the crises we face today,” Holden wrote in an op-ed in the New York Daily News announcing his endorsement. “He betrayed our trust, abused his power, and left office in disgrace.”

A Brooklyn Democratic lawmaker has infuriated party activists by backing Republican mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa — while slamming ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s political comeback bid.

Assemblywoman Jamie Williams spoke at the opening of Sliwa’s campaign office on Flatbush Avenue on September 14, effusively praising the GOP hopeful as the best candidate for her constituents, as she ripped his Democratic opponents.

“I have to say, Curtis has stood with our community from day one for everything the former governor, Andrew Cuomo, did to us, and also Eric Adams,” said Williams, in a video of the event obtained by The Post.

President Donald Trump’s war of words with New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani continued this week, with Trump again warning of federal action if Mamdani is elected.

In a post on Monday to his social media site, Truth Social, the president threatened to cut federal funding for New York City if Mamdani becomes mayor.

“He is going to have problems with Washington like no Mayor in the history of our once great City,” Trump posted. “Remember, he needs the money from me, as President, in order to fulfill all of his FAKE Communist promises. He won’t be getting any of it, so what’s the point of voting for him?”
