Old Man's Corners

Not as much done on the shed today as I had hoped. Ended up having to cut 2x4x12' into 2x4x6' because Home Depot does not sell 2x4s in 6' lengths. Worse, the 12' footers are 12'-1.5" Are you serious? So now double the cuts.

The foundation was square, the sub-floor sheathing was not. How can that be? I seriously need to find a lumber yard up here and not rely on Home Depot. Bad enough I had to go through quite a bit off the stacks to get what I got for today. Some of the lumber could be the poster children for Peroni's Disease. Just sad.

Shed as of 1700 this afternoon:

Foundation after cutting the stringers, squaring everything up, and using 6" structural screws to anchor. Foundation is square and level.

Sub-floor sheathing down, back wall mostly framed and ready for anchoring. Want to get the two side walls framed first then anchor everything down. Front wall needs to be laid out as there will be a 36"W door there.

Saw horses just out of view to the left is the lumber for the exterior walls I cut.

Lowe's not much better. Have to go through 20 to find one good stick of lumber.

May be worth the trouble to find the nearest lumber yard that caters to those who build custom cabinets.

I can do quite a bit. Am a firm believer of "why hire it out if I can do it myself". Besides, having a lot of tools helps. Being retired, it gives me something to do and I'm outdoors.

Same here. but sometime get some professional hand.
 
So, update on Casa Retiro. Just waiting for the updated bids from the subs and a contract from the GC.

Reached out to 5 lenders who provide construction loans. 4 have responded. All are comparable and all have worked with the GC on various projects including where we are going to build. I have a call with the 3rd a little later this morning and an in-person meeting with the 4th tomorrow. Am hoping sometime early next week we will be in a position to make a selection there and move forward. So far, all have near-identical terms and how they disburse funds to the GC.
