Old Man's Corners

My daughter ordered steak tonight in a Paris restaurant and suddenly this 1961 Yogi Bear episode pops into my head

I told her maybe you should ask for some ketchup.

Great games today. Thought the PR-VE game was going to be closer. PA blew out AU.

On the domestic side, NV did the same to IL. And damn, CT was tough against TX. 1-0. CT pitcher is definitely on track for the majors.

My home state plays tomorrow night against South Dakota. That is the nightcap. Taiwan plays Mexico before that.

Interestingly, I've been to France but not Paris. Had the opportunity about 15 years ago. Long story short is if I had taken the offer, I'd have likely been out of a job and divorced.

Now, Normandy! That was a great trip. Got to see if I can find the photos from that trip. In the meantime, here is a favorite:

Grumpy old man vacation review/update

Paris

Eiffel Tower: A
Louvre: B- (yes I saw the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, etc)
Fête foraine des Tuileries: C+

Notes:
1) Apple Pay so far rocks in Europe..it’s just “ding” “ding” “ding” everywhere (even in taxis, souvenir shops, fairground kiosks). No pulling out wallet, no need for Euros, no worry about sketchy card readers. One headache completely vanquished. I would even go as far as to say Apple Pay is more widely accepted over here than in the US

2) bottles of Coke Zero sold everywhere if water isn’t your thing

Palace of Versailles: B- (not wow’d at all…sure it’s huge but every room covered with paintings in drab colors and dusty chandeliers abound with zero sparkle. Famous Mirror hallway needs some sprucing up. You’d think it was Disney’s haunted mansion).

Saw one of these (there’s like 5 versions) and it was probably one of the best things there

Haha! I’m in a restaurant and they served the starter bread with Heinz Ketchup (in a bottle that looks like it has been refilled 200 times) and Amora mayonaise.
