So I'm again getting in the mood to build a new PC. Would really only need a new MB, CPU and appropriate cooler, RAM, video card, and M2.0 SSDs (one for data backup). Existing case and PS in the legacy 1st gen i7 is more than adequate.
Browsing Amazon last night, there are now gaming MBs that will support up to 256GB of RAM!!! Are you kidding me? It wasn't that long ago I was running VMs at work on 16GB. With what I'm planning on, 128 would be MORE than enough. Key would be the graphics card. At least 12GB there. A gaming class PC would be as closer to a true server without actually buying a server.
Going to spend some time reading on Tom's Hardware later as well as Newegg.
