Karachi Port, 1948

This rare image shows Karachi shortly after independence, with a US Navy warship (possibly USS Oakland or USS Toledo) docked at the port.

The bustling crowd, vehicles, and bicycles reflect the vibrant life of that era.

It offers a glimpse of Karachi’s early years as a vital seaport and a hub connecting Pakistan with the wider world.

A view of Zhob Railway Station in 1980
Locals at the station sold tea, dried fruits, and traditional foods.

The echo of the steam engine whistle could be heard far and wide in the mountains and became the identity of the region

The echo of the steam engine whistle could be heard far and wide in the mountains and became the identity of the region.

The average speed was only 15 to 20 kilometers per hour.

The Zhob Valley Railway is a golden chapter in the history of Balochistan. It connected the people living in the mountains to the world, promoted trade, and played an important role in the regional culture. But the expansion of roads and modern means of travel ended this rare rail service in 1986. Today, only its ruins, the remains of the stations, and local memories remain.

Afridi tribe people have been shown working in a native rifle factory in the independent tribal area of Kohat Darre, India (now in Pakistan) - 1935

Standing local residents are driving a rifling machine to cut spiral rifling cages in barrels. This interesting picture Ernest B. Taken by ShoedSack, who led a campaign from northwest India to gather authentic environmental scenes for Paramount's "Lives of a Bengal Lancer" film.
