Rawalpindi's Pir Vadhai is a busy and populated settlement today, but before the establishment of Pakistan, this area was known as the ancient crematorium of the Hindu community. People used to perform their last rites here, and took a flowing drain in front of it.

Whose water was absolutely clean, transparent and full of life at that time.
Used to be a silent witness to these rituals.

Abbottabad was founded in 1853 by Major James Abbott, the first Deputy Commissioner of Hazara District. The district stretched from the Himalayas in the north to Rawalpindi in the south.

Abbottabad was a cantonment or permanent military base for the region. The garrison there consisted of four Gurkha battalions and four mountain batteries.
