I went to KPK in 2022 for a short visit pre IK ouster and was harassed by the police in Hayatabad who accused me of carrying drugs solely because I was driving alone and had a Nicop . I had to call in a military friend to have things moving along and then have the local SHO apologize to me.

My experience does not correlate to your claim.

Now, did I have or could I have similar experience in Karachi or Islamabad? Yes - I had a similar issue on the turn coming in from the airport in Isb which is notorious for the picket basically looking to rob passengers and I had my wife and child with me - what I had done to those men is a different story but again got the military involved which is also wrong because the military should not be immune to the law or above it - but that is the system

PTI definitely had good people and they tried to bring change but their leadership screwed up and just like PML(N) and PPPP fell afoul of the OG thugs and just like those parties claimed injustice(rightly so).

Nothing to do with you. Hayatabad was almost like a stronghold of such people. Many afghans rented houses there, because it was posh area so they didn't faced much issues running their operations from there. Drug smugglers and kidnappers. Many kidnapped people were later recovered from bungalows in hayatabad. Many houses raded had lots of weapons and drugs recovered. You have to consider the location of that area as well.

That is the first and closest proper settlement with afghan border. Smuggling of drugs, weapons, even cars is a major issue. Kidnapping is another.

Now I dont know how was your experience. But even I will face this situation in hayatabad if I am in GLI or a similar car , alone.

I appreciate the context on Hayatabad's history, but that's not really the point I'm contesting. I'm a US citizen with Karachi roots, my NICOP shows that address plainly, and I lived in Peshawar during 2006-08, arguably the worst stretch of terror activity and Taliban encroachment the city has seen. So I'm not naive about what Hayatabad was or is.

None of that explains why officers would attempt to plant drugs in my car until I started making noise and calling contacts. That's not a "wrong place, wrong time" issue tied to smuggling routes or border proximity but plain corrupt behavior, and it's a textbook example of the "rivers of milk and honey" narrative I originally pushed back on.

I'm not disputing that KP police made real progress in some areas. But citing the area's crime history as an explanation for an attempted extortion attempt just confirms my original point: the corruption and bribery cycle that plagues policing across Pakistan didn't magically disappear in KP but it did get better PR.

Now the impact of Afghans - You don't need to cite border proximity to make that case anyway. Just walk through barra and you'll find plenty of open proof of every type of smuggling operation without needing a single link.

Oh. I thought you just had a bad experience (I.e they being rude and checking car extensively because thinking you maybe transporting drugs). Obviously police is the last thing any Pakistani can be proud of. There is room for atleast 5000% improvement. We should be looking for these black sheeps in every department and reporting them. And thanks to social media and camera phones. This can be a great weapon against them .... but then you can even get shot for recording police (already happened in punjab as well).

Attacks in last few days have mostly been carried out by TTP. Now, how they have been able to come so close to Quetta, that too, in such strength, and then inflict such heavy casualties on local Police, leaves a huge question mark on local intelligence, not just on Police, but also on MI, which is so deeply involved in affairs in Balochistan.

At this point, I am not sure what to demand, airstrikes in Afghanistan don't work because you fail to take out anyone with importance in terrorist infrastructure, then on the home front, you keep sending boys on 4x4s, waiting for convoys to get ambushed. The whole counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency strategy is failing at such exceptional pace. But then again, do we even have any strategy?

The hard-earned gains against terrorism during the time of General Kayani, and then General Raheel, are being washed away so quickly, first by the incompetent Bajwa, and his lackeys in the government, and now by someone who's more interested in his global image as the peace-maker than what this nation gave him the uniform for. Absolute failure.
