As far as economic development during Ayub Khan's time is concerned, America and the West have the capability to develop any third world country ruled by their local agent. You can see examples of Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Germany, Turkey. Their policies are based on Capitalism which favours the few rich families over the masses and gave the slogan of Trickle Down Economy while in actuality it is the Trickle Up Economy to this day.

As far as India is concerned many of the sons of rich Hindu Seths were members of Congress and followed the made in India policy for many decades.

As far as Islamic Economic System is concerned, it is better than both Capitalism and Socialism and follows the middle path just like the pro-poor economic and social systems of Norway and Sweden. Under the Islamic System the poor, the sick, the elderly, the infants, the widows are all cared for by the government. Every day on Facebook, I see videos of grown Pakistan men and old men crying in front of cameras about the hard financial times they are facing in Punjab and the rest of Pakistan because of unchecked Capitalism and Corruption.

Pakistan has always been a broke country unable to fulfill its potential because half of its population are illiterate and live like bandits.



What I liked about Ayub Khan was he understood the nature of the afghans very clearly, he hated them and made sure Pakistan was ideologically and politically aligned to this.



The closest we got to this was Musharraf. He should have been allowed to complete his work.

Taliban Khan helped to push him out and then started protesting the drone strikes on the complicit people of FATA sheltering talib fighters and here we are in 2026 still going through the motions.

Only if you studied how Ayub Khan economy worked or was engineered to work.

Ayub Khan’s economic boom during the 1960s was driven in large part by substantial foreign assistance and external financing from the Americans and World Bank courtesy of Cold War politics, complemented by domestic investment, state-directed credit allocation, protectionist policies, and rapid private-sector industrialization. While these policies generated impressive rates of economic growth and accelerated industrial development, the gains were distributed unevenly. Economic ownership and wealth became increasingly concentrated among a relatively small group of industrial and financial elites; as few would know, among those 22 prominent families, they controlled different ministries and were awarded permits and various authorizations to do business, in a way that prevented new entrants from coming into the market and growing.

Another aspect you can look at is that Ayub & today's PML-N heavily used external capital and financing to subsidize imports that helped relax the balance-of-payments constraints; this allowed the importation of capital goods (equipment & machinery, etc.). In the end, the results faltered; it took the 1965 Indo-Pak War to show how the industrial momentum quickly collapsed, and that without external capital and financing, the Pakistan economic model fails.

This is the exact economic strategy that south korea also copied but added their Export Target ELement on so they succeeded. Ayub Was very close to the true economic blueprint from agrarian to powerhouse. However the Political Continuity did not exist for it.

Even South Korea used Foreign Aid For this Strategy so Foreign Aid itself is not a bad thing, it is what u do with foreign aid is what differentiates you from the rest.

The Truth is that You can see an Poor Nation like South Korea, they had nothing and were treated like Sub Saharan Africa. But they invested extremely heavily in Human Capital and Built KAIST which catapulted them and produced engineers & Scientists, their literacy rate skyrocketed too and they did aggressive land reform early to create a smallholder population willing to buy goods of their chaebols. then Forced those Chabeols to Export or Die.

Their people evolved, their children became educated and civilized and produced more generations who continued their path to progress.

Capacity building to become a reliable cog in the global supply chains doesn't happen overnight.

it is actually a couple of things that economically ruined our path:
1. Lack of Land Reform(Feudalism should not exist in any country in the 21st century but unforutantely we are pakistan, evry nation which succeeded had done proper land reform here our ulemas declared it haram......)
2. Human Capital(Our Nation is Full of Uneducated People in the Majority and there is still a Vast amount of people who cannot even read or write. We are Far Behind in Literacy Rates Compared to Rest of Asia when Universal Education Shouldve been Investedf for in The Beginning. Nations like Taiwan had Government programmes sending their brightest to Developed Countries to Earn PHDs and Come Back to take over businesses)
3. Import Substitution Industrialization(While Ayub was close, he never really forced the conglomerates or 22 Families Companies to Actually Export Properly, Look at how South Korea made their domestic market a training ground then forced their Chaebols selected to Either Export or Go Bankrupt and be Jailed. Also their Bureaucracy was Very Educated and Ruthlessly Enforced it, Japan did a Version of this Policy aswell and Taiwan also did such... But Pakistan Did no Such thing during Ayub Era)
4. Bhutto's Nationalization(Changed the Trajectory of our Economy with Islamic Socialism. Nationalization Ruined Everything and we suffer from this even today)
5. Zia's Wahhabization(Set our Social Policy and irreperably Damaged it. Seriously see 1970s pakistan media and compare it afterwards. We are now Wahhabi Level and this is why terrorism is present here)
6. Energy Sector Bloat(Circular Debt and why we always get hit with Balance Crisis of Payments)


We also barely make anything. and this stupid government doesnt focus on manufacturong enough. Look at india, they tried to skip manufacturing to gol straight to services in 90s and now they are a K Shaped Economy.
