PAF Conducts successful test of indigenously developed FAAZ BVRAAM

First off..., Aim-120 (AMRAAM) is a BVR.

The SD-10 falls in the same category as the Aim-9 (Sidewinder).

Claims are that this (Fa'az) is a BVR.

Okay..., but what's the range?

We've seen the video of it being fired off a JF-17, but it doesn't show of a target being hit.

It would have been nice had they shown a lil' bit more like ... 👇

FAAZ 2 BVR

I don't think FAAZ is anywhere close to entering serial production yet. The Turkish Gökdoğan missile offers a useful benchmark for understanding the potential development timeline.

Turkey conducted tests of the Gökdoğan in 2018, with production reportedly commencing in 2022. This suggests a development cycle of roughly four to five years before the missile reached the production stage. However, it is important to account for the fact that Turkey's defence-industrial ecosystem is considerably more mature than Pakistan's, which has only recently begun to place greater emphasis on developing an indigenous defence production complex.

Even in Turkey's case, missile development and operationalisation were not instantaneous processes. The transition from initial design and testing to a production-ready system, followed by operational integration, took several years. This is an important consideration when assessing FAAZ's potential induction timeline.

Pakistan, meanwhile, has been working on the concept for FAAZ for quite some time. The experience gained through SD-10 production and integration has provided a useful technological foundation, while FAAZ itself appears to have been in development for more than five years. Nevertheless, having an established conceptual and technological base does not necessarily mean that the missile is ready for serial production or operational service.

If we were to apply a development timeline broadly comparable to Turkey's, I would consider 2030 a plausible, albeit speculative, timeframe for FAAZ's potential induction. This is not a confirmed timeline, of course, and progress could be accelerated depending on the maturity of the programme, testing outcomes and the availability of supporting infrastructure.

For Somalia, however, waiting until the end of the decade may not be a practical option. If Chinese BVR missile options are unavailable, Mogadishu could potentially turn to Turkish solutions to meet its immediate requirements. Pakistan's ability to integrate Turkish-origin equipment could also provide an alternative pathway, particularly if the objective is to establish an operational capability before FAAZ becomes available.

Ultimately, the distinction here is between a long-term indigenous capability and an immediate operational requirement. FAAZ may eventually offer Pakistan and its partners a viable option, but Somalia's near-term requirements could necessitate an interim solution.
You are drawing comparison between Apple and orange.... FAAZ doesn't need to go through all those tests that Gokdogan has to go through.... whole point of keeping of the SD 10 airframe is cost cutting and time saving.

Are you sure? Never underestimate your enemy!

They have not done or developed anything of note since May. Their cycle is far slower due to government red tape.

Only noticeable thing is MiG-29K getting replaced by Rafale.

We never tested SD-10 on mirage. No proof exists, only rumors. (or I missed its photo / video ?).

No point to make BVR capable post JF-17 era. Mirages took a specialized strike role from stand off range. PAF never considered them for BVR post 2000s.
At this point, I won't be surprised if PAF has already tested SD-10s on Mushak as well...😂😁
SD-10 is the first decent air to air missile Pakistan got its hands on without any strings attached, so 'general mobilization' rule applies, 'if it(aircraft) can fly, strap one to it'....😂😁😂😁

Overjoyed to see this. It will not just be A2A missile. This could be first step towards a cheap and local air defense system as well.
Air defense is not cheap unless u r Israel and have access to US tax dollars.....😂😁😂

Bro I'm not doubting you. My point was when you first suggested there was something we missed I was honestly going to guess ramjet.

It was a guess. I had no reason for that guess, it was literally the first thing that came into my head. There was no logic to my guess, just pure fluke.
Yes yea....never doubt me...OK? 😜

Even with local production, we still cannot put them out like hot cakes, it is a resource blackhole....

Ye to wohi baat hogai ke, Pakistan ghareeb hay, cars are expensive.

But a PKDM Alto is still much cheaper than an imported EV.
