F16 saga...
Well even after 40 years of service we still don't know whether it was worth it

Worth the sanctions and worth the sacrifices

Would a mirage 2000 or f1 or gripen been a better choice

My answer probably yes.. nothing is second to independence
 
Swedes are the fickest of the lot n would have sanctioned us long long ago.
The french r cut throat business men, who would sell u down the river for the slightest of the profit......after sales is an other matter. French are the worst thing that can happen to a militaries on a budget

So no our choice was the best from the worst.

Well both swedes & French are well under USA
Influence, Gripen is using US engine somewhat
Like T129 situation & French are always ready to
Ditch you like the way they ditch Argentina in Falkland war French even can’t sell their gadgets until USA leave that certain market for them to sell their Rafale though USA still sell something else which is more expensive to that
Country like Qatar, India , UAE & the list keep on going

Had PAF picked the Mirage 2000, IAF would be flying F-16s. So in the end it worked out for the better.
Remember that the Indians would have bought a western fighter to counter the acquisition by PAF. Indian Mirages were paid for by the US while Saudis provided the financing for ours

The talk of mirages acquisition by PAF started in the mid 90s while PAF started operating the f 16 in the early part of the 80s.
Had the russians not invaded afg we would not have become the darling of the west n in turn f 16 would not have happened.
So yes PAF would have acquired the mirage 2000 in the early part of the 80s.

Dont know about india as back then it was part of the red block....so don't think the u.s would have entertained indias request for the f 16 at the height of the cold War.
N as the ussr would not invaded afg then ussr would still be around along with the iron curtain.

Same as had 911 not happened....PAF would not have acquired the block 52.....
n it sure as hell would have be the first foreign customer of the rafale

F-16C Block-52+ of Pakistan Air Force.This type was first PAF jet to incorporate an internal EW suite which is critical in modern warfare.It was later joined by J-10CE and then JF-17C. These three also form the spearhead of PAF which can dominate any adversary in the region.
