PAF F-16 | Discussions

PakDef was founded and owned by Syed.
H Khan was a prominent member there, not sure how he came into controlling the forum. Interesting

He was off hands for a while … and HKHan was controlling the forum …. Many complained about his behaviour …. Eccentric and bizarre at times……

It depends, if PAF was offered Block 40 F16s with over 4k flying hours left for less than $10-15million, then they would be worth it. Nothing in PAF's service has a higher payload capacity than the F16 and there are many roles the platform can still perform.

It comes down the cost/value equation. That is why I would never advocate for the Block 70 upgrade, but I wouldn't oppose 2nd hand airframes etc.
Block 32/42/52(not the 52+) variants would work out well. Block 40s would mean setting up another engine group for the GE side, while far more effective, for PAF it would make sense to have PW equipped F-16s for commonality.

Hold onto hope for block 52 guys...Iraq will definitely retire them by 2040 😅

we can create a separate thread on discussing the old forum and memories and leave this thread for the discussion of F-16s

I don't think it matters..., 'cause I doubt they're in flyable condition since the US Contractors left a few years back.

Besides, they're just like the Egyptian F-16. They can't be armed with BVR.

That is just a matter of code. With a software update, they will be able to fire bvr

No, it isn’t; it’s a matter of CAN bus configuration, which is sealed shut.
To put it in a nutshell, all that needs to be done is update the jet's datalink software, which will make the jet BVR-capable.
In reality, it is BVR-capable, as it can fire the semi-active AIM-7 Sparrow, which has a range of 70 km. But it requires the AC to illuminate the target till the missile reaches the target..Putting the AC at a very serious disadvantage in today's air warfare.
The problem stems from the fact that due to a downgraded version of the jet's data link software, the ac is unable to support continuous-wave (CW) illumination and mid-course missile datalink updates. Without these modifications, the aircraft cannot guide modern fire-and-forget missiles to their targets.
This, in addition to a few other alterations (e.g., upgrading the jet's mission computer and software) will make it as potent as our Block 52 if not more

Hope you get the picture
