PAF Future Acquisition Plans

True, I recall he mentioned the wrong number for the J-10. He seemed hesitant and unsure whether it was called the J-10 or J-11. He acted like a deliberate slip of a tongue by revealing information and then not knowing what he is talking about. However, just a few weeks later, the news was made public by the Air Force, and the deliveries followed within six to 12 months of his claim. He, despite being an idiot, he was the Minister of Information, so it’s likely some details were disclosed to him in private meetings and he leaked it with innocent face.

The J-35 is on a completely different level as it is an advanced fifth-generation aircraft, and any claims about it would require verification from a credible source. The J-10, on the other hand, had been in production for 20 years, so China selling it to Pakistan was surprising but not shocking.
Sheikh actually broke the news slightly earlier than he was told to. But still by the time he announced and by the time we got them it was only gap of three months.

Hi,

What happens is that with changing times---all surprises are not of equal value---.

The J-10 CE was a "thing of substance" at that time---. So---with changing times and current world scenario---the J-31 was not a surprise and chinese giving it to pakistan---nothing out of the ordinary---.

Simply put---the "threshold level" of conflict has changed drastically to a very dangerous level---.

Pakistan’s reported procurement of J-35 jets from China signals that the stealth fighter is ready to enter the international market, potentially helping to finance development of more advanced weaponry for the People’s Liberation Army, analysts say.

The sale would mark Beijing’s first export of fifth-generation jets to a foreign ally and is expected to recalibrate regional dynamics, particularly in relation to Pakistan’s rival, India.

The acquisition of the fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft J-31 will only contribute to expanding Chinese-made fighter aircrafts presence in the inventory of the Pakistan Air Force, following the procurement of J-10 and JF-17 jointly developed by Islamabad and Beijing.

Speaking at an induction ceremony for new equipment in Islamabad last year, Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu stated that the Chinese-made stealth fifth-generation fighter aircraft, J-31 aircraft would soon be inducted into the country’s air force.

“Negotiations have already taken place to facilitate the acquisition of the J-31 aircraft, which will soon be part of the Pakistan Air Force,” he announced during the event.

Pakistani broadcaster 24 News HD reported last week that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) had approved the purchase of 40 of the aircraft, which are expected to be delivered within two years to replace the country’s ageing fleet of American F-16s and French Mirage fighters."

No way will it use WS10. How can you take out a F110-GE-129 and drop in a WS-10? These two engines have different designs, parameters for performance, …

Even though the f16 can have two different types of engines, both engines were designed to the same spec to ensure they would work with the fq16. That is not the case between an American and Chinese engine…

In fact, the F-16's F110-GE-100 has 4,000 pounds more thrust than the F100-PW-200, and the thrust difference between the two engines reaches 20%.

He is not referring to the difference in thrust, he is referring to the actually engine physical stats length, weight location of components and gearbox for maintenance, bracer locations. Its not enough to simply take 2 engines with relatively similar weight and thrust, you have to redesign parts of the fuselage and move components around. That said it should be doable this early to have a variant designed to house a chinese engine.

@Oscar what was it like for our officers flying Chinese made planes like the FBC-1,JH7 and Q5 Fantan.
Why were the reports so unsatisfactory

Who said they were all unsatisfactory?
The JH-7 and FBC-1 are the same aircraft - and the PAF purchased the A-5.

The former was deemed an expense not worth it and the latter went onto a decent service career.

What made you make the unsatisfactory comment? Please provide context

The FBC-1 could've had a spot had the Peace Gate III/IV (and beyond) F-16s came through. The F-16s were crucial in building the multirole capability, which would've brought out the value of platforms for niche missions. However, when the F-16s fell through, the PAF had to prioritize reworking the multirole element (via FC-1) and, if possible, secure a strike-capable multirole jet like the M2K-5.

Good news for India.

Before PAF ordered J-31, US would have never given India F-35 citing it will impact regional balance of power.

Now with Pakistan getting J-31, US will cite the same excuse i.e to "maintain regional balance of power" to offer India F-35.

Guess US knew well in advance PAF was going for J-31, which is why it sent F-35A to Aero India 2023.
As always, I turned out right.
