Still, where does the money come from?

If your really love your motherland, you would not want PAF to buy 40 J35 in the current period. that is a very huge expenditure. Buying 4-8 J35 is an appropriate number, 12 at the most. Pakistan needs to allocate the money in the right place, arms race is not a good idea.

The usual process will be followed

Soft loan from Chinese Lender
Down payment is available
The rest then goes into payments.

The economic situation is VERY bad but currently there is offsets being offered by way of mineral and other resource sales to Chinese firms.

So they will be able to make a minimum payment if needed.

WHETHER THEY SHOULD is the question.

This is ajust an old mock-up of the very first FC-31 V1 and not even the improved V2 or J-35!

I earlier said that I fell that a few examples J-31 might be inducted by 23rd March 2025 but got stung by criticism . I still stand with my opinion. I understand, apparently things are folded in layers. So. it is really hard to say with firm belief. However, things are rolling and being changed with rapid pace. Let see....

I suppose anything is possible & we’re all entitled to our opinions but I think there is no chance of any such thing. Just look at when we started talking about the J-10 and when we got it. Another point I struggle to comprehend, why such mega urgency for a 5th Gen type? We’ve shown we can more than hold our own against India & the J-10 acquisition maintains that balance. So while plans for a 5th Gen at some stage are absolutely appropriate, why do we desperately need to today? To further aggravate the existing arms race with India that we can ill afford? 5th Gen any time before India is plenty, since as the smaller nation we’re usually the ones that follow what they do to restore the balance.

As things stand now, it seems that the code “J31” is not used and will not be used in the FC31 series in the future. Right now there are only “FC31” (code during SAC development) and “J35” (officially awarded by PLA) series.

If it's the J35 that comes to Pakistan for a demonstration or PAF trial, I'm fully convinced that it could easily be done.
If it's 2-4 J35s joining the PAF directly into official service, I think it's possible, but the probability is very, very small and infinitely close to impossible.
If it's 8-12 J35s joining PAF directly into formal service, I don't think there is any chance at all.

China can easily give a few J35s to Pakistan for trial etc, Just like they gave Z10 helicopters, but I highly doubt it will happen as its not needed, it did not happen with J10s, J20s so why J31s, Pakistan/China have Nato style close collaboration and friendship in terms of military.

The J31/J35 date is changed again, we had December 2027, now March 2025, Pakistan at the moment does not need J31/J35, we already have F16s, J10Cs, Jf17s to defend against Indian aggression. After 2030s paf will seriously look in to 5th generation, at the moment we have J31/J35s, and Kaan as options, both very exciting prospects.

I've stated my personal attitude earlier in this thread and it hasn't changed at this point. I.e., the timing of J-35 to Pakistan(full service) depends on India.

Dear this forum has a diverse membership, including a few technical experts, some enthusiastic fans, and many silent observers.

The terms FC31, J31, J35, J35A, etc., can be confusing for many members, especially those without technical knowledge or who don't follow related discussions. While it's important to use accurate terminology, sometimes it's necessary to infer the correct meaning from context, even if the members themselves may not be aware of the distinctions. I expect this issue to persist for some time, at least until a formal announcement is made with a specific name.

Regarding the timeline, I still anticipate a 2028 timeframe for the full induction of these aircraft into the Pakistan Air Force (PAF). It's possible that a small number of jets (2-5) might arrive earlier (Before Dec 2026), followed by the commencement of Chinese orders and then the PAF's main induction in 2028. However, this is just my guess.
