I can see the logic behind IR seeker for a stealth aircraft air-denial missile, but as previously pointed out, these seekers don't work beyond 20ish kms. The iranian route is the correct one, replace rocket engine with turbojet for loitering and picket line capability.

FAAZ-SL range is 35km not 20-25Km. Engagement altitude is 12km not 6-8km.

The missile does not need a IIR detection range that is greater that 20km for BVR combat as it will be guided to the target by an AEW&C via updates in realtime, it prob needs a range of less than 20km.

It is being developed to counter stealth targets, how will you get vicinity level track from 200km on sub cm-2 target with AEW&C? Besides the AEW will be shot down before it is able to direct anything meaningful to an F-35 type target. So I repeat again, this concept does not add up.

If the professionals of the PAF continue to develop this missile with the IIR seeker, then they obviously see more value in it and its military capabilities than you think? ?
