Pakistan, in the meantime, also accepted millions of Afghans as refugees and hosted them in the country for several generations. Thes Afghans had all the freedom to move around in Pakistan, establish large businesses, buy real-states, get modern education, and whatnot. After the current gang of criminals, under the leadership a ignorant fool Hibatullah, came to power in Afghanistan, the Afghan refugees were supposed to return to their country; they didn’t and neither the government of Pakistan forced them to do so. Pakistan decided to send these Afghanistanis back only after the government of Pakistan, to its horror, found that many of these ‘refugees’ are involved in heinous crimes, terrorist activities, and large-scale smuggling, especially of dollars to Afghanistan, systematically trying to weaken Pakistan from inside. The state of Pakistan then started showing some seriousness in dealing with the Afghan plague.
Pakistan, as recently mentioned by Pak defense minister, has made numerous attempts to engage the Taliban regime for addressing Pakistan’s concerns but to no avail. If anything, more and more Afghan nationals were sent to Pakistan for suicide bombings and an evil alliance with India rapidly emerged. That alliance appears solely to target Pakistan with large scale terrorist attacks on Pakistan’s western border and military aggression of eastern one.
Pakistan soon realized that all excuses offered by Taliban regime are merely lies and that Pakistan was, in fact, under a coordinated attack from two fronts. Taliban regime is, in fact, consistently pursuing the decades’ old goal to occupy Pakistan’s territory and finds the current times quite opportune for realizing that dream. What Pakistan does with any Indian aggression is another topic but the time for dealing with this consistently lingering issue of greater Afghanistan is now. The only question is how far Pakistan should go.
