Pakistan’s car sales rose 19% year-on-year to 50,480 units in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, despite a slowdown in September. Sales of cars, SUVs, pickups and vans fell 12% annually and 3% monthly to 15,104 units during the month.
According to Topline Securities analyst Sania Irfan, uncertainty over the sales tax policy for hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles delayed invoicing and affected overall sales.
Indus Motor Company was the only major carmaker to record growth in September, with sales rising 31% year-on-year to 4,142 units. Strong demand for the Corolla, Yaris and Cross supported the increase. Its quarterly sales climbed 34% to 13,260 units.
In contrast, Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company’s September sales dropped 46% to 4,862 units, while Honda Atlas Cars reported an 8% decline to 2,128 units. Hyundai Nishat Motors sales also fell 25% to 884 units.
Meanwhile, the two- and three-wheeler market reached a record monthly high of 202,502 units in September, up 27% from a year earlier. Tractor sales rose 130% to 1,815 units, while truck and bus sales increased 13% to 933 units.
Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association Director-General Razi ur Rahman said the quarterly figures showed renewed customer interest, supported by easing inflation and improving economic conditions.
However, he noted that buyers and manufacturers remained cautious about investment decisions. He also warned that rising imports of fully built vehicles and uncertainty over the auto policy could put pressure on Pakistan’s balance of payments.
