Pakistan, as a country of 250million people should be able to generate good quality footballing talent if they moved in this direction as well as Olympic talent.

It would have to be at grass roots, i.e. schools switch over to football as part of their PE lessons, and local clubs and the sport would have to take off i guess privately in the same way the 1 day matches are privately sponsored in Pakistan now. No point waiting on anything from the government. It would have to take a group of visionaries in Pakistan with some money to shift the needle from what is cricket( i have not seen a...

I think Pakistan has plenty of talented footballers. What they lack is visibility and opportunities to refine their skills because of limited resources, insufficient governmental support, and almost non-existent private investment compared to what cricket receives. A well-organised domestic league that is properly marketed and televised could make a huge difference by giving players consistent exposure and attracting sponsors. Pakistan should also encourage expatriate Pakistanis to participate and create pathways for local players to train and compete in countries with stronger sporting systems, much like the PCB did or does by sending cricketers to play county cricket in England. Perhaps then we'll finally see other football receive the attention it deserves. As for cricket, I hope it reaches its much-deserved end in Pakistan, a miserable death.

Cricket itself is dead, as a certain highly intellectual nation chose to insert politics directly into the sport the subjects of the British empire once loved. It is the realm of t20 mercenaries now, and nothing more. Pakistan should extricate itself from the sport, starting with a full boycott of "marquee fixtures" that a certain nation is so desperate for.
