Defectors won’t be allowed to join PTI again: Haleem Adil Sheikh

PTI leader Halim Adil Sheikh has made it clear that those who left the PTI in times of distress won’t be allowed to join the party again.

Speaking to the media, he said: “Those who want to come back to the party, they won’t be allowed to. The ones who are publishing videos, none of them will be allowed to.”

Sheikh highlighted that former federal minister Ali Zaidi, who parted ways with the party post May 9 riots, “backstabbed” ex-prime minister Imran Khan.

The PTI leader said party workers like Yasmin Rashid, Mehmoodur Rasheed, and Sanam Javed were “our heroes” and loyalists of the party.

“We will not betray PTI loyalists and workers,” he concluded.

Former Punjab Assembly speaker Sibtain Khan has cautioned against “haphazardly” convening the provincial assembly session, citing concerns over the controversy surrounding the Feb 8 election results.

Speaking to Geo News, Khan emphasised the inappropriateness of making the Punjab chief minister’s election contentious post-polls.

“I will not endorse the proposed Feb 22 session of the Punjab Assembly until deserving candidates secure their reserved seats,” he insisted.

Khan maintained that the session should not proceed until the Sunni Ittehad Council is allotted its reserved seats.

PTI demands CEC Raja to immediately resign

The PTI has demanded that Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja immediately resign, saying that the CEC failed to hold elections in a free, fair and transparent manner.

“After meeting Khan sahib today, the PTI demands that the CEC resign, he has no right to stay in the position for a single day,” Barrister Gohar Khan said at a media talk outside Adiala Jail.

He demanded that all the inquiries into poll discrepancies should be impartial and without any interference. “We want the election results to be in accordance with the mandate of the public,” Gohar added.

Jamaat-i-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmad on Tuesday demanded that Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja resign from his post and proceedings under Article 6 (high treason) of the Constitution be initiated against him.

He passed these remarks as the upper house of Parliament convened for the second day. During the session, a number of senators raised concerns regarding allegations of poll rigging and last week’s press conference by former Rawalpindi commissioner Liaqat Ali Chattha wherein he had accused the Election Commission of Pakistan and Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa of involvement in the “rigging” — a claim denied by the electoral watchdog and the top judge.

‘Mother of all rigging’ has made Pakistan laughing stock globally, says Imran

Feb 20, 2024
PTI’s founder Imran Khan has said that the “mother of all rigging” must end now because Pakistan has become a laughing stock globally, as per his sister Aleema Khan.

What exactly does he mean by “mother of all rigging”? It was dismantling the PTI, snatching its iconic election symbol of bat, not allowing the party’s candidates to submit nomination papers, coercing candidates into withdrawing from elections and denying the party the right to canvass.

While speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, where Imran is incarcerated, Aleema Khan said that her brother wants the culture of impunity to end and the mandate of the people must be respected to salvage the country’s reputation internationally.

Imran also ridiculed his arch nemesis, the PML-N, which willingly bartered away its narrative to grab power. “Instead of honouring the vote, the ‘selected ones’ have honoured the boot,” Aleema quoted Imran.

X becomes govt's first target

Feb 20, 2024
Social media giant X, formerly Twitter, often becomes the first casualty when the government fails to handle criticism in Pakistan.

Once again, amid political, economic and security challenges coupled with rigging allegations arising out of February 8 elections, the government’s fear of dissent forced it to take X as a threat and shut it down without giving any reasons.

It’s not the only one, as other social media applications, cellular services and internet frequently face blackout, leaving from the president to experts and media to common man to question the unannounced disruption and dub it an attempt to silent dissent.
