There was a movie on this event called Madras Cafe. There might be a couple of others too.
Madras Cafe is about the conspiracy within India to assassinate the Indian Prime Minister ( which is actually now a much lauded event with the assassins now heroes and going Scott-free). It is not about the Sri Lankan war but the aftermath of the Indian defeat.
There are NO Bollywood movies about the Sri Lankan war like
Uri, Border, or 1971. Unlike the West and the Soviet Union ( Russia) which produces movies about defeats as well as military victories (
All quiet on the Western Front, Dunkirk, Apocalypse Now, The Dawns here are Quiet, The Kingdom of Heaven ) Indians revel in make believe war story fiction. The only movie India has produced in its history about a defeat is
Haqeeqat which actually is a technically well produced but low budget black and white movie about the Sino-Indian war of 1962. Even here the movie portrays Indian soldiers fighting impossible odds to the last man, not retreating, and never surrendering ;when in fact Indians surrendered in large numbers allowing 38,000 sq.km. of territory to be captured and held.
Before the famous "93000" jibe kicks in from
andhbhakts let me acknowledge that Pakistan hasn't made any movies on the East Pakistan Civil war either. In fact Pakistan makes NO full length war movies about any wars for a good reason. The Pakistani armed forces are comparatively less dependent on propaganda and narratives and need to war movies for their narrative and image. Documentaries, museum relics and memoirs are sufficient.
There will NEVER be movie about the 2020 Galwan incident either,
