Pakistan has expressed its full support for the efforts being undertaken by Saudi Arabia for ensuring peace and stability in Yemen, it emerged on Saturday.

In a statement released late on Friday, the Foreign Office (FO) said Pakistan was closely following recent developments in Yemen.

“Pakistan expresses its full support for the diplomatic efforts being undertaken by the kingdom of Saudi Arabia for ensuring peace and stability in the Republic of Yemen. We also commend the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in this regard,” it said.

“We underscore the need for upholding the unity and territorial integrity of Yemen, and express the hope that the Yemeni stakeholders will avoid any unilateral steps that may result in further escalation of the situation,” it said.

“We also call on all Yemeni parties to engage constructively and in good faith towards an inclusive, negotiated political solution based on the agreed parameters,” the FO said.

“Pakistan expresses its hope that the ongoing diplomatic efforts will result in concrete steps towards achieving lasting peace in the country, and in bringing an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people,” it added.

He probably did not get what is what looking for.

We can all speculate on what that may have been, Pakistan will not do any talking on it given the importance of UAE to Pakistan. UAE has helped Pakistan economically a lot, so the protocol and pomp and ceremony for his visit was appropriate regardless of the outcome or the expectations of either UAE or Pakistan.

Can't we appreciate and respect someone without getting some benefits/ charity ?

This visit of felt more like a pit stop than a state visit. A few hours on the ground, some polite smiles, then wheels up the same day. No MoUs, no mutual statements and even news went cold within hours. Hard not to read between the lines here. Something tells that this was more of a temperature check than anything else. I'd Expect more cooling down of relationships.

Are we reading too much into it? Or this is all the time they could spare for us? Either way a weird one, this.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan to discuss the current regional situation, the Foreign Office said on Tuesday.

The contact took place amid heightened regional tensions following Saudi Arabia’s strikes on Yemen. During the call, the two leaders exchanged views on the evolving situation in the region and shared assessments of recent developments.

According to the FO, the deputy prime minister expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation across various sectors.

Prince Faisal, in turn, reiterated Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing and deepening bilateral ties, underscoring the importance of continued engagement between the two countries.

The conversation reflected the close and longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, as well as their shared interest in regional peace and stability.

The contact came as the region faces unprecedented tensions between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates following a Saudi strike in Yemen, which Riyadh said targeted a UAE-linked weapons shipment. The development marked the most significant escalation between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi to date.

Once considered twin pillars of regional security, the two Gulf states have seen their interests diverge on a range of issues, including oil quotas and geopolitical influence.

Saudi Arabia said on Tuesday that its national security was a red line and backed a call for UAE forces to leave Yemen within 24 hours. The warning represented Riyadh’s strongest language yet against Abu Dhabi, as the coalition struck what it described as foreign military support to UAE-backed southern separatists. The head of Yemen’s Saudi-backed presidential council also set a deadline for Emirati forces to withdraw.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are both major players in the OPEC oil exporters’ group, and any disagreement between the two could complicate consensus on oil output decisions.
