They are trying. They have reached out to Fincantieri, how successful they are is another question.
Ficantari is set to earn massively from Pakistan, if they get the SWAT program they will also help build PNs NG submarines, we might even see Ficantari chosen for PNs FAC requirement.

Damen is at PMSTP too. Worth pondering since, to this day, the PN has yet to finalize its submarine rescue-and-salvage requirements.

Yes, it’s 5-8 vs 2 anyways. And defence companies have started to get india fatigue.

I could see Damen filling out PNs support fleet requirements, more tankers OPVs which PN has set out requirements for.

The PIE while massive is still finite, every defense company had the dream of grabbing it but lot of them found out the hard way

If you notice, the Indian military tends to hover around a few champions at any given point. It's historically been Russia, France, and UK, with now Israel and Germany in the mix. It's tough to enter when one is not in the mix, as South Africa learned (and died trying).

It was the Emirates that fucked us over with Denel, we had a real opportunity there.

You mean Denel, right? Yeah, not long after we finally signed a defence collab MoU with South Africa, UAE gobbled up all of Denel's talent. But RSA is still good on the upstream stuff, plenty of things to learn there.

Yup was talking about Denel

To be honest the death of SA defence industry has many reasons, the biggest being the reverse racism and quota system (yes, quota system , wonder where else I have seen it **** up a country 🙄) that pushed out good talent.

Brazilians also have some decent stuff they aren't talked about much, there are possible partnerships there, not with giants like embraer but smaller players.

The thing is, NESCOM is pretty good now at designing new products and systems. The real challenge is always upstream industrial stuff, and that's where countries like Brazil, Poland, Ukraine, Hungary, South Africa, etc., are low-key really good potential partners. You won't find a lot of new weapon systems from any of them, but it's the stuff that goes into the weapon system that's worth learning across all.

They are being picked off by the same player that picked off SA talent.

Especially with the Fatah 1/2, many countries are now looking for conventional SSMs, production lines for these systems can be setup in different countries that will massively help with the scale.

Yep, but it's often those same countries that know solid fuel, metallurgy, and stuff like that really well. We can trade our product know-how (with real test info, validation, qualifications, etc) for their upstream know-how. They get the munition and we get the underlying industrial base to at least support our needs.
