Pakistan-Saudi Arabia mutual defense pact: News & Discussion

You cannot seriously ignore hindutva opening up to zionists so openly. Whether we like it or not Pakistan does need strategic depth, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th strike capabilities. iran hamari ainway he nai itni sun raha, unhay b shayad aisi he kisi cheez ki zarorat pari ho gi.
English brother.
I cant read that .

I think politically Pak has done very well to balance relations with Saudis and Iran. All three sides understand the situation Pak is in and im sure neither Iran or SA see Pak as a threat.

In regards to the defence pact if SA has asked for help and Pak did not respond the geopolitically its word means nothing and pacts are of paper weight only, so by putting some assets in SA for me is a good move.

Final point, IMO the Pak deployment is defensive, we may not agree with SA behaviour in letting US use their bases, air space intelligence assets to attack Iran but we do believe in Pak acting in a professional and defensive manner. Also let's not forget the holy sites are also a red line and the threat on them does not come from Iran.

We need to look 10 positions ahead not only the next move.

$5bn extended, and $3bn more added, its a quagmire, will Pakistan be able to say 'NO' now?

Its just deposit, Pakistan pay interest.

Yeah but it does give Saudi more influence over Pakistan and puts us in a complicated position in situations of shared interests.
Bro
If saudi had the influence over Pakistan the way you are insinuating - then Pakistan wouldnt be the fulcrum of negotiations and assisting iran and facilitating them. Leverage yes it would assist in this

its good KSA helping Pakistan but real frustration is when are we going to be economically stable? we are still circling around .

Time has chnaged . KSA and Pakistan have to protect each other bitb countries need each other now more than ever.

Saudi Arabia will help Pakistan fill a multi-billion-dollar fiscal gap caused by the upcoming repayment of debt to the United Arab Emirates. On April 15, Reuters reported the news, quoting Pakistan's Finance Minister Mohammad Omarzeb.

Omarzeb told reporters in Washington that Riyadh had announced an additional $3 billion support for Pakistan and would extend a $5 billion deposit rollover arrangement.

A spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Finance confirmed to Reuters: "We can confirm that Saudi Arabia has agreed to provide a $3 billion deposit to Pakistan to support its balance of payments."

The report stated that this move highlights the increasingly deepening relationship between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. The bilateral relationship was strengthened last year through a joint defense agreement, under which an attack on either party would be considered an attack on both.

The biggest threat in the Middle East right now is Israel. If Pakistan uses this money to buy weapons and tells Saudi Arabia that these weapons will be used to protect Saudi Arabia, I believe Saudi Arabia would agree with this proposal very much.

Yes Saudi Arabia con make these deposits in to investment if they want.

The Saudis are a clever bunch when it comes to diplomacy.

Defense pact with Pakistan and suddenly UAE pulls the rug on loans, hence Pakistan naturally had to seek Saudi support.

I do not view Pakistan army stationing in Saudi as a net positive. Rather Pakistan’s hands are tied due to strategic short sightedness arising from its frail economy.

Then shouldn't Pakistan fix its economic affairs such that it does not need this level of external support, and influence? If Pakistan properly documented its "black economy" then this issues will go away. We all know Pakistan chooses to not to, so that people can benefit from the corruption and you are then stuck with issues like this.

Its not difficult for Pakistan to fix, if it chooses to do so. It chooses to not do so, and that is a conscious decision on its part.
