Pakistan-Saudi Arabia mutual defense pact: News & Discussion

Say what you want about them, but always there for us

It is for this very reason, that Pakistan cannot manage its economic affairs, that makes Pakistan a poor security partner it is always vulnerable to needing loans and aid to "just keep the lights on". As the UAE case proved, Pakistan's chain can be yanked easily due to poor economic policies and mismanagement.

Agree - Saudi's have been there economically, but that same problem makes Pakistan a poor security provider. How much military power can Pakistan "devote" to the alliance? At most 1 or 2 JF17 squadrons and soldiers in the low tens of thousands.

Agreed, these arrangments will simply not work unless there is a MASSIVE level of investment in new kit, training and infra. Pakistan cannot afford that

Actually more important aspect is just the "Show of force". That a country with a large army, nuclear weapons and missiles has a joint defense pact with another country. That is more of a "Deterrent signaling".

Many times this deterrence signaling is enough for strategic objectives and security even if there are not enough number of forces present.

Also Iran was very careful and some what reluctant to hit KSA as it hit the others. One of the contributing reason is this pact in place.

While you are fully right, one of the many reasons while Iran has refrained from targeting KSA much (was the case from the very beginning) is due to KSA being a completely different animal altogether and KSA easily being able to target Iran in a equal or larger measure. As we recently saw (massive attacks on PMF terrorist cults in Iraq), KSA is not afraid from targeting IRGC operatives directly in Iraq, Yemen and elsewhere. It is a losing game in other words. I can only see them doing it in case of an all-out war where they have nothing to lose and they know their impending doom (regime).

Otherwise they are deeply untrustworthy and double-faced. Talking about peace and cooperation with their mouths while arming their backward terrorist cults and proxy groups wit the intention of targeting/weakening KSA.

You're highlighting the issue already - you are basically a dude with $1 million combined credit card, mortgage, medical and auto debt living in house with stuff falling off but everything gets repainted and you have fancy german cars on loan while living with rats and cancer. You borrow left right from banks and friends while your only claim to fame is owning guns and you work out while pumping steriods to get quick gains and douse painkillers.

In this case, your "friends" then know you're screwed in the long run but they still keep you up for some old times sake and because they have their own issues so they'll hire you on IoUs for security but make other plans as well.

If this was an actual dude in real life - where do you think this is going?
The problem with that analogy is that it fails. The guy that you are actually have tangible skills and the rich friends have numbers on a spreadsheet. You have lots of guns and ammo. And a garden which keeps you fed, if not overmuch fed. You credit card is maxed out, but its with a small limit and you have never missed a payment.
Your house looks dilapidated, but the roof keeps out the rain., Your car is rickety and old, but it is very reliable and goes anywhere, while you friedn masarati needsnpoerfct roads,.
There is a reason why when there is an actual problem, you are fine, be it COVID, or wars or insurgencies or financial emergencies, since tou have actual atanible assets that you can depliyt and your friends have seen it.

Seems like one night of US–Saudi airstrikes on IRGC-affiliated terrorists in Iraq was enough to break Iran's jaw.

Number of Saudi interceptions of Iranian ballistic missile and drone launches between 28 February 2026 - 8 April 2026.

Ballistic Missiles: 104
Drones: 916

10/04/2026: Iran targeted 7 Arab countries with 6,413 missiles, drones over past 41 days: Anadolu Ajansi

India launched two dozen cruise missiles towards Pakistan in May 2025, and Pakistan responded with airstrikes and rocket attacks while also began preparations to refuel its long-range, nuclear-capable ballistic missiles.

The Americans, Saudis, Turks, and others intervened to prevent further escalation to save a shell shocked India. That entire crisis unfolded within a single day on 10 May 2026.

Since then, India has totally "refrained" from repeating that action.

However, Saudi Arabia facing 104 ballistic missiles and hundreds of drone launches from Iran over a 40-day period cannot reasonably be described as Iran "refraining" in any meaningful sense.
