The use of religion in Pakistan has been used as a brainwashing tool to keep the illiterate in line and to scare the moderates into submission through blasphemy charges and other means. It's done more harm than good and has wasted away generations. It has prevented any meaningful reforms from taking place, as the sword of anti-Islamic behavior hangs over everyone's head. You can't assemble a team of sophisticated economists, God forbid one turns out to be a Ahmadi. Your textbooks since the Zia Era alone have Islamized things to a great extent; it's left children neither here nor there.
While in the states, many are advocating for Christian beliefs, the courts have upheld the U.S. and state constitutions as the supreme law of the land. The checks and balances are working, though eroding on the edges a bit.
