The Interior Ministry has approved the deployment of Rangers and Frontier Constabulary (FC) in Islamabad to maintain law and order situation in the twin cities during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned protest on November 24.

According to a notification issued by the ministry on November 7 but reported by PTV News today, the approval was given under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

A summary was submitted by the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad in this regard on November 4.

“[…] the Federal Government in the exercise of the powers conferred under Sections 4 & 5 of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, is pleased to authorize the deployment of sufficient strength of Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) and Frontier Constabulary troops in ICT from 7th November 2024 onwards to handle the law & and order situation,” the notification read.

It added that the exact number of troops, date and area will be worked out in consultation with the concerned stakeholders.

PTI has announced a “decisive” protest on November 24, urging its workers from across the country to gather in Islamabad to demand the release of their leader, Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted bail to the PTI founder in the new Toshakhana case.

The Punjab government has adopted a strong stance ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) "final call" protest, saying that it would deal with protesters on November 24 as they do with terrorists.

In conversation with journalists outside the Lahore High Court, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said: "While they [PTI] might have plans A, B, and C, the state possesses the entire 'ABC'."

The provincial minister's remarks come in the wake of the looming "do-or-die" demonstration announced by the former ruling party in Islamabad which has time and again called for the release of its incarcerated founder Imran Khan and the return of its mandate which it alleges was stolen in the February 8 polls.

The former ruling party, for months, has been at odds with the incumbent government and has marched onto the federal capital on multiple occasions leading to a crackdown against its leaders and workers.

PTI can do the funniest thing by constantly postponing their march.

WTF is the government even doing blocking off the whole country? They even shut off all transport in Islamabad. Police is doing raids in homes and hostels. My own cousin got booted out.

Shutter down strike to inhon nay kar di hai.

What's next? Airspace closed? Media blackout?

The Internet will be shut down soon. Repair work has started on all motorways. Lol. There are 400 containers in Islamabad, and more than 20,000 police, and Munir backup.
