New York (VNA) – Party General Secretary and State President To Lam met with leaders of the Communist Party USA, left-wing organisations in the US and friends of Vietnam on September 22 (local time) in New York as part of his trip to the US to attend the High-level Week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

The meeting, jointly organised by the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee's Commission for External Relations, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations and the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations, saw the participation of delegates from different states across the US.

At the meeting, the participants shared their warm feelings and support for Vietnam in different forms over the years.

Rossana Cambron, Co-chair of the Communist Party USA expressed her deep impression of a modern, prosperous Vietnam with a socialist-oriented market economy, which she said is a model of sustainable growth, improving people's lives and an example of turning the theory of socialist society into reality.

She affirmed the desire to strengthen relations between the two Parties in the coming time.

John McAuliff, Executive Director of the Fund for Reconciliation and Development said he was impressed by the post-war reconciliation between the two countries, and the strong development in all fields within the framework of their comprehensive strategic partnership.

He said he wished Vietnam will share its experience to promote reconciliation and development in relations between the peoples.

Other delegates also shared personal stories and experiences in the journey to promote understanding between the people of the two countries.

For his part, Vietnam's top leader To Lam expressed his respect and gratitude for the support and affection that US communists, friends and people have been giving to the Party, State and people of Vietnam.

He informed the participants about Vietnam's achievements during its renewal process over the past nearly 40 years and the results of the implementation of targets set by the CPV’s 13th National Congress.

Lam noted that the 14th National Party Congress in early 2026 will be an important milestone, marking the era of the Vietnamese people's rise on the steadfast path to socialism.

He affirmed the policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, friendship and development in Vietnam's relations with other countries, including the US, emphasising the message that Vietnam actively contributes to peace and reconciliation in the world, and engages in solving common challenges that humankind is facing.

At the meeting, the top leader conferred the Friendship Order to individuals who have made many positive and important contributions to strengthening the relationship between the peoples of the two countries.
