Bangladesh Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday called for the revival of the Saarc as a top platform for regional cooperation in South Asia.

The chief adviser made the call when he met Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting at the UN headquarters in New York.

During the meeting, the two leaders underscored the need to revitalise the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Chief Adviser Prof Yunus said reviving Saarc could be a good way to start it and sought Pakistan’s support.

Shehbaz Sharif promised his support for the initiative and suggested the countries move step by step in reviving the regional platform.

Sharif said Bangladesh and Pakistan should open a “new page” in their relations to enhance cooperation in various aspects.

“It’s very essential we revive our relations,” he said.

Sharif expressed Pakistan’s interest in investing Bangladesh’s textile and leather sectors.

Chief Adviser Prof Yunus proposed an exchange of youth programs between the two countries.

The two countries also discussed renewing foreign secretary-level talks and reactivating the joint commission between the two countries.

Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain was also present during the talks.

Bangladesh founded SAARC back in 1985 and today you have Bhartis acting like it's their personal club. Where do they get the nerve to claim everything?????????????????

It's going to be threesome , both of your orifices will be filled .
I think you guys did not get it. If you guys want to improve your relationship between your countries why do you need SAARC. You guys can connect together and discuss. You behave behave as if SAARC doesn't function then your relationship cannot improve.

Don't know if SAARC will be revived, perhaps without India, but it's good to see Pakistan and Bangladesh ties grow.

This is how it should be.

If only BD was allowed to separate from the beginning, BD and Pakistan would be the two closest allies in all of Asia.

BD and Pakistan should form their own SAARC. For bilateral negotiations.

Current one is dead so no worries.

Separate, they would be best allies, together one was getting destroyed by other? Interesting.

A pertinent question. Since India has little interest and thanks to current political-economic situation SL, Maldives, Nepal etc. wouldn't care, it will be a two member Saarc. Perhaps China can join?

Language and societal/political differences were too much for such an underdeveloped nation to deal with from the very beginning, and that too across two separated mainlands.

BD should have been allowed to separate from the beginning.

SAARC may be a way for the new government in BD to gain legitimacy in the neighborhood forcefully dominated by India.

You're going to have to ask the BD gov why they want to revive SAARC. Pakistan is fine without it.

Fact

Revive SAARC. Members of SAARC include Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan. There is a better option just Pak and BD improve relationship with each other.

Regional cooperation is important. Easier and cheaper to trade between local communities than traveling 3000+ miles away.
If Bangladesh can source something from Pakistan and vice versa , than why not ?
