CM Maryam inaugurates EV command centre

LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated the Punjab Transport Company headquarters and Electric Vehicle Command and Control Centre.

During a visit, the chief minister also saw an automatic washing plant for electric buses. She was informed that the plant recycles water for reuse. The chief minister inspected the charging station where Yutong's 160-kilowatt system can fully charge an electric bus within 105 minutes.

She visited the Command and Control Centre and sought a timeline for the induction of 1,500 new buses.

She ordeted that the bus charging system be shifted to solar energy at the earliest and instructed officials to identify new routes for green electric buses. She also ordered improved arrangements in view of rising passenger numbers and additional buses at locations where commuters face long waiting times.

She ordered that carbon credits under the Green Bus Project be claimed. She also commended the dedication shown by electric bus crews in assisting persons with special meeds. She said the launch of green buses had set passenger records across Punjab. The chief minister said the government wanted to launch metro bus projects in Faisalabad and Gujranwala at the earliest.

River passages, waterways in Punjab: CM for strict enforcement of ban on construction activities

A proposal to construct 17 mini dams at different locations across Punjab. A decision was also taken to enhance water storage capacity at Kalabagh and Sadhnai Barrage. The Chief Minister further directed the introduction of inflatable dam technology in the province.

During the meeting, approval was also granted for the establishment of District Emergency Operation Centers, regional disaster centers and warehouses. The Chief Minister also approved the provision of modern equipment to Rescue 1122 for flood operations.

In the briefing it was informed to the participants that rehabilitation work on flood-affected roads and routes has been completed. A total of 186 roads spanning 563 kilometers, 446 culverts and one bridge damaged during floods have been restored.
 
Along the five major rivers of the province, 1,990 areas fall under high-risk flood zones, 1,278 under medium-risk zones and 3,169 under low-risk zones. The meeting was also briefed that 183 irrigation projects are currently underway in Punjab, while desilting work will be carried out on 298 drains and flood channels and 67 drainage systems.
 

Punjab makes public transportation free

“Citizens will not have to purchase tickets while travelling on public transport — Orange Line Train, Metro Bus Service, Speedo Bus and Green Electric Bus,” Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said in a statement.

She said it was a major relief package for the people of Punjab in view of the ongoing global crisis. She added that it was also part of the implementation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s national savings and austerity programme across the province.

Shrimp farming projects reviewed in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to rehabilitate barren lands across the province by converting them into economic zones under the Blue Economy Programme.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Monday that progress had been achieved in developing infrastructure for shrimp farming projects in Sargodha Estate, Aliwala and Shahgarh. In the Sargodha shrimp farming project, excavation of 118 ponds has been completed, while boring of 116 tubewells and 100 per cent land clearing and survey over 365 acres have been finalised.

Construction of the warehouse is 90pc complete, while work on the admin block and feed store is progressing rapidly. The project spans a total area of 500 acres, the CM was told.

For the Aliwala shrimp estate, 90pc of the allocated 1,267 acres have been cleared. Excavation of 642 out of 737 ponds has been completed, while 91pc of work on the drainage system and 100pc excavation of MDC drains have been finalised. A survey and clearing of a 9,000-metre road network is completed and 80pc earth filling work achieved.
 

Punjab to export livestock

LAHORE: Punjab will export livestock and meat as the provincial government on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with seven institutions, including a Chinese company, for the purpose.

A video link meeting in this regard was presided over by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Under the agreement one million livestock will be exported.

The meeting was informed that China’s Global Meat Company would install a boiler unit in collaboration with the government-owned Punjab Agriculture and Meat Company in the province.

“The boiler unit will prepare boiled meat on a large scale for export. Meat companies will import the meat of 300,000 animals ready for export. A target is set for fattening 300,000 buffaloes and cows, and 300,000 sheep and goats. Some 100,000 goats and sheep will be raised for export.”

“The state-of-the-art veterinary hospitals will be established in every tehsil of the province. Four mobile veterinary dispensaries will operate in each tehsil to provide door-to-door animal treatment.”
