Royal Saudi Arabia Armed forces

They want at least 8..

Starting a submarine arm from scratch os very very hard, even major nations like Malaysia, Indonesia and even Iran, South Korea and Egypt have only got into the game relatively recently. Very recently in the case of Malays and Indonesians

As we know its not just a case of buying subs and getting men trained.

A good submarine with a well trained crew can not just bring havoc to an enemy fleet and deny vast areas, but will also force the enemy to dedicate a disproportionate amount of resources in hunting them.

Nope, Indonesia has already had submarine long time ago since Soekarno era. Do you guys forget Indonesia sending 2 submarines to help Pakistan 1965 war ?

We basically change the source from Soviet Union during Soekarno period into Western source ( Germany ) during the next 32 years of Soeharto regime.

My bad, I thought teh German subs were the first Indonesia operated

I guess Saudi Arabia needs atleast 16 submarines as it has large western and eastern flanks with sea.... I heard gulf is quite shallow for submarines operation.... is this the reason they didn't focus on submarines?

Imagine with the money power Saudi got what kind of submarine fleet they can build within a short span.....

On National Day...
An oath we uphold... and a banner of glory we defend 🇸🇦

We can say congratulations to Saudi Arabia

The upload date is September 17th and it's supposed to end on October 17th, meaning a full month, or 30 calendar days.

Upon verification, the deadline is 30 calendar days, not 30 business days. The Congressional Research Service report explicitly states that the review of arms sales under Section 36(b) lasts 30 calendar days and is not interrupted by congressional recesses.

This means that October 17th is the last day of the review.
Following congressional review, the Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) preparation phase begins, which can take up to 130 days, or more than four months.

The LOA is then sent to the Saudi side for review of the final terms and acceptance decision, a process that can take approximately three months.

After acceptance and completion of the necessary procedures, the contract award phase begins, paving the way for implementation and production.

These timeframes represent the maximum estimated duration, and the process may be completed in a shorter period.

The GREYSHARK Foxtrot submarine is part of the Saudi maritime surveillance systems

Unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) are playing an increasingly important role in maritime reconnaissance and surveillance operations, thanks to their ability to operate underwater for extended periods, gather intelligence, monitor vital submerged installations, and detect suspicious objects without endangering human crews.

In this context, the German company EUROATLAS developed the GREYSHARK Series 2 Foxtrot system, an autonomous underwater vehicle designed for long-range reconnaissance, protecting maritime installations, surveying the seabed, and supporting mine countermeasures. Powered by fuel cells, it can remain submerged for up to 16 weeks at a speed of 4 knots.

The Saudi General Directorate of Border Guards showcased this system at the Ministry of Interior's pavilion at the World Defence Exhibition 2026, as part of its efforts to enhance underwater surveillance capabilities and support the protection of coastlines and strategic installations.

Operational Tasks and Capabilities

1. Protection of maritime infrastructure

2. Long-range reconnaissance and surveillance

3. Sea mine detection

4. Seabed monitoring and hydrographic survey

5. Anti-submarine warfare support

6. Coastal and territorial water security support
