“It will still cost less than changing the car yourself. The seller assured that, for example, an electric bumper for a “loaf” is difficult to find on sale.

When asked by socialbites.ca about the reasons for setting such high prices for cars, the UAZ press service said that the recommended retail prices (RRP), as well as the cost of cars in the plant’s online store, are significantly lower than dealer offers.
“If you look at the RRPs presented on the official website, and also pay attention to our online showcase, which allows you to choose the car you are interested in at the recommended retail price in the nearest city, without dealer markups and taking into account all conditions, promotions and offers, you will notice tangible differences with the mentioned price,” the UAZ press service told socialbites.ca.
At the time of writing, on the online showcase of the official UAZ website, 180 Patriot SUVs can be purchased from dealers throughout Russia. They cost from 1.6 million rubles. up to 2.2 million rubles. when purchasing for cash (including factory options and dealer additional equipment).
Not worth the money
UAZ prices seem inflated based on consumer qualities and low reliability, but motorists are forced to buy them due to the lack of alternatives in the SUV segment, Jan Heitzer, Vice President of the National Automobile Association (NAS), told socialbites.ca.
“When someone turns to a UAZ, it means that they can’t afford another SUV. Now they have a choice between very expensive foreign SUVs, mostly sourced from unfriendly countries, and a UAZ. In my opinion, the UAZ doesn’t match their values,” says Heitzer.
He adds that the equipment does not meet modern safety standards, controllability and dynamic requirements. The expert recalls that all prototypes of the new UAZ, which promised victory over the Land Cruiser Prado, remained on paper, but the Chinese analogue of the UAZ from the BAW company went through an evolutionary path and received modern units.
If we talk about the “loaf”, this car is not suitable for today and safety.
“It should not be driven on public roads. It is a commercial vehicle that should be registered for technical inspection but should not be driven on modern roads,” Heitzer believes.
At the same time, for subsequent modifications of UAZ vehicles, the plant issued them Vehicle Type Approvals (VTA). It is worth noting that they allow the installation of electric bumpers, bodies and other similar tuning elements without additional registration of design changes.
Maxim Kadakov, editor-in-chief of Za Rulem magazine, admits that UAZs have no direct competitors in Russia, but sales of these cars are low and the quality of the cars is poor.
“If UAZ cars were bought at these prices, their prices would be close to what is currently fair on the market. Maybe a little lower. These cars are all big, heavy, and framed. “A big car, no matter where it is made, cannot be cheap,” Kadakov told socialbites.ca.
Kadakov stressed that cheap chassis SUVs, even Russian-made ones, are not expected on the market, but still the average salary of Russians who want such a car has not increased as much as UAZ prices.
The price of Ulyanovsk Bukhanka minibuses, which differ little from those produced in 1958, has now exceeded the 2 million ruble mark at UAZ dealerships. There are no airbags or exchange rate stabilization in Bukhanki. People complain that they quickly break down and look cheap, but engines with Euro-2 exhaust remain at the level of the last century. socialbites.ca tried to understand why UAZs are so expensive.
