The 11 millionth vehicle has been registered in ERA-GLONASS state information system since its launch in 2015. According to GLONASS press service, the jubilee vehicle became the Sobol NN in Azurro colour. As stated, the fleet of vehicles with SOS buttons has been replenished by almost 800,000 vehicles only in 2024. However, last year, one million vehicles were connected to the system.
“Our current objective is to expand the system's functionality in order to enable ERA-GLONASS to prevent accidents and reduce the risks of accidents through interaction with roads and cities’ smart infrastructure. For instance, drivers will be provided with advance warnings about potential obstacles on the road or speed recommendations to ensure a smooth passage through traffic lights”, said Alexei Raykevich, General Director of GLONASS.
As previously reported by AUTOSTAT, in 2024 a new generation device for contacting emergency services (UVEOS 2.0) or SOS buttons will be launched, creating the world's first state platform of services for car owners on the ERA-GLONASS basis.

In May, the Moskvich plant sold 1,750 vehicles, including almost 200 Moskvich 6 liftbacks and approximately 140 Moskvich 3e electric cars. During five months of 2024, over 8,700 Moskvich cars were sold in Russia, including 700 Moskvich 6 liftbacks and almost 600 Moskvich 3e electric cars. In total, the Moskvich automobile plant expects selling 27,000 cars in 2024 vs. 15,300 vehicles sold last year. This represents a sales growth of approximately 75%. As previously reported by AUTOSTAT, the Moskvich automobile plant unveiled a new model: the Moskvich 8 seven-seat crossover. The start of production and sales of the new model is scheduled for the end of this year.

AVTOVAZ increased production of LADA cars by 66% in January-April 2024​

AVTOVAZ produced over 160 thousand LADA cars in the first four months of 2024, which is 66% more compared to the same period last year. As previously reported by AUTOSTAT, AVTOVAZ summarised the results of a large-scale campaign on renovation, preparation of new LADA models production and increase in production capacity. According to AVTOVAZ press service, in order to increase the productivity of the LADA Niva family assembly line up to 50 vehicles per hour, some improvements were made in chassis, engine, forging and aluminium casting departments.
To ensure the highest quality standards for the LADA Vesta and the LADA Aura models, a scheduled replacement of the cataphoresis primer in the body painting baths was carried out. The painting and assembly lines for the LADA Granta (as well as the LADA Iskra starting from the beginning of 2025) were modernized. This involved relocating robots that apply glue to the windscreen and rear window, changing the height marks on the painted body conveyor and modernizing the final test stands.

Only Russian electric vehicles to be available for government purchase from 2025​

The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade prepared draft amendments to the Russian government decree No. 2014 of 3 December 2020, which envisage the introduction of a minimum mandatory share of domestic products for the purchase of electric vehicles. These amendments propose the inclusion of new items in the regulations of public procurement, including passenger cars, light commercial and cargo electric vehicles, as well as electric buses of various classes. It is proposed that the minimum mandatory share of domestic vehicles in the government purchase for these items should be 100% starting from 2025. We should remind that as of today, there is already a ban on the foreign-made vehicles of various types to purchases for state and municipal needs. The draft amendments bring the regulatory framework for electric vehicles in line with the current Russian Government Resolution No. 616 of 30 April 2020.
As previously reported, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia updated the list of domestic cars recommended for priority use by state and municipal employees for official purposes. The current list includes vehicles with a Russian VIN number that are manufactured in Russia under special investment contracts in accordance with localization obligations.
To date, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade recommended the purchase of vehicles from 12 brands (more than 35 models) in line with the expansion of the list. The list of recommended vehicles for state and municipal employees includes LADA, Moskvich, UAZ, Sollers, Evolute, Haval, Aurus, Kaiyi, BAIC, Amberavto, SWM, and Citroen. Previously, the list comprised only the first six of the listed brands.

Sales of Belgee X70 crossover in Russia announced​

The Belarusian brand Belgee officially enters the Russian market through Slava Motors Rus company as the exclusive distributor in our country. According to the company press release, the official launch of Belgee dealer network in Russia is scheduled for 1 July. The initial Belgee model range comprises the X50 compact crossover in three configurations – Active, Style and Prestige – at a price from 2,290,990 to 2,500,990 rubles. Belgee model range will be expanded and the next addition will be the Belgee X70 mid-size crossover, which will be available to purchase in the second half of summer.
The vehicle will be available with front or all-wheel drive, and will feature a mild hybrid system. The vehicle is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, which can be paired with either a 6-speed automatic transmission with torque converter or a pre-selective 7-speed robotic transmission, depending on the version. Further details regarding the specifications and pricing of the new model will be provided later. Belgee vehicles are locally manufactured versions of Geely models, produced at the BelGee plant in Belarus.

The GAC GS3 crossover prices announced​

GAC Motor Company introduced a new compact crossover, the GAC GS3, in Russia. According to the price list on the automaker’s website, the novelty is offered in five configurations at a price from 2.299 million rubles to 2.649 million rubles. The exterior of the GAC GS3 features a geometric front bumper, as well as an aggressive rear bumper with central tailpipes. The sporty front seats are upholstered in two-tone soft eco-leather, and a 12.3-inch touch-screen multimedia system is integrated into the dashboard. Luggage capacity ranges from 341 to 1,271 litres.
The GAC GS3 compact crossover is built on the GlobaI PIatform ModuIar Architecture (GPMA) platform in collaboration with Toyota specialists. Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 170 bhp, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch robotic gearbox. The car is equipped with McPherson independent suspension at the front and torsion beam at the rear. It has an average fuel consumption of 5.9 litres per 100 km and accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds.

In five months of 2024, Sollers sold 4,451 cars in Russia, which is 2.5 times more than in the same period last year. According to Sollers press service, the Sollers Atlant remains the most popular model with 2,762 vehicles of various modifications sold this year. Furthermore, he stated that AVTOVAZ plans to resume production of the LADA Vesta stabilization system (ESP), rain and light sensors, and other comfort options in the third quarter of this year.
According to the head of AVTOVAZ, the most significant improvement will be to enhance the safety of the Niva family. The Legend and the Travel are currently being tested and equipped with airbags. As previously reported, the LADA Granta remains the bestseller of AVTOVAZ for the five months of 2024. According to the company, this model was chosen by 82,219 buyers (+1.1%).
The LADA Vesta is on the second place with 51,768 vehicles sold, a significant increase from 10,323 cars sold a year earlier. The sales of the LADA Niva Travel SUVs reached 21,372 vehicles (+ 20.2%), while the demand for the Niva Legend came up to 19,870 vehicles (+43.2%). Production of LADA cars in Egypt scheduled to commence​

The plant, which is being constructed in the Egyptian city of Tarbul, will begin production of LADA cars in 2025. This information was provided to RIA Novosti by the Minister of Trade and Industry of Egypt, Ahmed Samir, who also said that the enterprise is planned to produce between 50,000 and 70,000 cars of the Russian brand. He also noted that AVTOVAZ and GV Investments had signed a partnership agreement, which granted the Egyptian company the right to produce LADA cars in Egypt.
As previously reported by AUTOSTAT, AVTOVAZ changed its export business model in 2023 due to sanctions pressure. Last year, approximately 6,500 LADA vehicles were exported (-62%), with destinations including dealer centers in eight countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
In 2024, AVTOVAZ plans to increase exports to foreign markets up to 20,000 - 25,000 LADA vehicles. The primary export destinations remain the countries of the near abroad, with plans to resume sales in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East in the near future.

The LADA e-Niva electric SUV unveiled​

AVTOVAZ presented a concept car of the LADA e-Niva Travel electric SUV at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The concept car was designed to demonstrate the technologies and engineering skills of the company. As a representative of AVTOVAZ told to RBK, the concept car is equipped with a motor with a nominal power of 60 kW, a maximum power is 120 kW.
The LADA e-Niva Travel boasts a range of 175 kilometers, with two lithium-nickel batteries located in the trunk and under the rear row of seats. The battery capacity is 34 kW and can be charged from a household socket in 12 hours or from a three-phase socket in 5.5 hours. The LADA e-Niva Travel features an interior trimmed in leather, an original bumper and original LED headlamps.
When asked about the prospects of such a car, the representative of AVTOVAZ said that the company is currently looking at the reaction of the public, the price range has not yet been determined. At the same time, the official launch of the model has not yet been announced, and it is likely that the electric vehicle belongs to the pilot batch of cars produced at the end of last year. It is worth noting that the announcement on classified allows prospective buyers to gain an initial insight into the Amberavto A5 interior. The Amberavto A5 sedan, based on the JMEV GSE electric car from JMC - Renault joint venture, has the following dimensions: length of 4,675 mm, width of 1,835 mm and height of 1,480 mm, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase. The electric car is equipped with a MacPherson suspension at the front and a multi-lever suspension at the rear. The electric motor, which is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor, is capable of producing 160bhp of power with 225Nm of torque. The traction battery has a capacity of 60.2 kWh.
According to CLTC, the fully charged vehicle has a range of 520 kilometers. The novelty was adapted for operation in the Russian climate, passed certification, and is included in the deep production localization program. As previously announced by Valery Gorbunov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Avtotor Holding, the Kaliningrad plant intends to produce up to 3,000 electric cars under its own Amberavto brand in 2024.

The XCITE X-Cross crossover is available in two configurations, Enjoy and Techno, at a starting price of 2.499 million rubles. The new model is available for purchase at dealer centers in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Voronezh, Samara, Togliatti and Nizhny Novgorod. The XCITE X-Cross 7 is equipped with an electric boot door, keyless access and remote start with the key, LED optics, dual-zone climate control, a multimedia system with 6 speakers supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Furthermore, the baseline vehicle is equipped with a comprehensive winter package with heated steering wheel, front and rear seats, windscreen, rear window, exterior mirrors and windscreen washer nozzles.
The XCITE X-Cross 7 mid-size crossover has the following dimensions: The vehicle measures 4,500 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width and 1,705 mm in height. The crossover has a ground clearance of 190 mm. The luggage compartment volume is 475 liters, with the capacity increasing to 1,500 liters when the second row of seats is folded. The XCITE X-Cross 7 is equipped with a 147 hp (210 Nm) 1.5-litre petrol turbo engine, which works in combination with a variator. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 186 km/h.

This model will occupy a market niche between the LADA Granta and the LADA Vesta, complementing the LADA range and expanding the brand's consumer audience. The LADA Iskra is constructed on a cutting-edge global platform that has been re-engineered to become technologically independent. During the design process, the electronic infrastructure of the model was fully localized and approximately 400 new parts were introduced. The exterior of the LADA Iskra is a new interpretation of the brand's signature ‘X-design’, which incorporates X-shaped contours for the lighting equipment and characteristic sub-stampings on the body sides. The body has been subjected to rigorous aerodynamic testing at AVTOVAZ.
The LADA Iskra will be available in three variants: sedan, station wagon and Cross station wagon. The new model will be available with three different power units: a 90 hp 1.6-litre engine and a 5-speed manual transmission, a 106 hp 1.6-litre engine and a 6-speed manual transmission or automatic transmission. The car is currently undergoing a cycle of final tests and calibrations in preparation for production. The start of the LADA Iskra production is scheduled for early 2025. UAZ increases car sales by 31% since the beginning of the year​

The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant sold 13,180 vehicles on the Russian market over the first five months of 2024, which is 31.3% more compared to the same period last year. This information was provided to AUTOSTAT agency by Sollers press service. The SGR family of commercial vehicles accounted for the largest volume of sales, with 5,452 vehicles sold (+ 30.8%).
The UAZ Patriot SUV was purchased by 3,809 customers (+ 32.8%). The next most popular models were the Profi light truck (1,973 units, +23.9%) and the Pickup (1,706 units, +41.3%), while the traditional Hunter SUV took the fifth place with 240 vehicles (+17.1%).
As previously reported by AUTOSTAT, the Ulyanovsk automobile plant resumed production and sales of expeditionary versions of the SGR and the Hunter models. The vehicles with additional off-road equipment installed at the plant became available for order from April. The price of the UAZ SGR and the Hunter in the Expedition version is 1.690 million and 1.785 million rubles, respectively.
