Russia-Ukraine War - News, Discussions & Updates

According to Gorbachav, there was never a discussion; there is an understanding in spirit, but not an agreement, nor a debate, as per the RBTH article. If there were no discussion at all, either written or verbal, how would there be assurance otherwise??
You keep bringing in Gorbachev!! If his comments were so important, the war would've stopped. Your country India supports Putin 10000%!!

Putin is the man who started and running the war. While Gorbachev, his cousin or uncles are sitting on the sidelines sipping Russian Vodka for all it matters. Let's focus on the current situation, not people who have NO relation with the conflict.

Footage of a Russian column of armored vehicles breaking through to a Ukrainian brick factory in Malaya Tokmachka, Zaporizhia Oblast. Due to the long range of the footage, it was not possible to determine the type of armored vehicles, but all of them are equipped with Mangal-type protection. The video shows that the vehicles are being attacked by Ukrainian drones, and anti-tank mines are also visible. Judging by the video, one armored vehicle was damaged by a drone and troops dismounted from it. After field repairs, the armored vehicle left the battlefield on its own. The video is shortened, showing active moments of the battle, no details.

Please go through 2024 NATO's meeting minutes they publish. You'll find that there is an agreement on two things: 1: Turkey to recognize a key member and approve expansion and 2: Ukraine post war to become a NATO member. When you research, kindly post those decisions here with date, time and a source and we can discuss further.

Ukraine’s membership aspirations

  • In response to Ukraine’s aspirations for NATO membership, Allies agreed at the 2008 Bucharest Summit that Ukraine will become a member of NATO. They also agreed that Ukraine’s next step on its way to membership was the Membership Action Plan (MAP), NATO’s programme of political, economic, defence, resource, security and legal reforms for aspirant countries. In 2009, the Annual National Programme was introduced as Ukraine’s key instrument to advance its Euro-Atlantic integration and related reforms.
  • From 2010 to 2014, Ukraine pursued a non-alignment policy, which it terminated in response to Russia’s aggression. In June 2017, the Ukrainian Parliament adopted legislation reinstating membership in NATO as a strategic foreign and security policy objective. In 2019, a corresponding amendment to Ukraine's Constitution entered into force.
  • In September 2020, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved Ukraine's new National Security Strategy, which provides for the development of the distinctive partnership with NATO with the aim of membership in NATO. In September 2022, following Russia’s illegal attempted annexations of Ukrainian territory, Ukraine reiterated its request for NATO membership.
  • Recognising Ukraine’s increased interoperability and substantial progress with reforms, Allies decided at the 2023 Vilnius Summit that Ukraine’s path to full Euro-Atlantic integration has moved beyond the need for the Membership Action Plan – changing Ukraine’s path to NATO from a two-step process to a one-step process.
  • Allies have reaffirmed that Ukraine’s future is in NATO and that they will continue to support it on its irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership. To that end, Allies will continue to support Ukraine’s progress on interoperability, as well as additional democratic and security sector reforms, which NATO Foreign Ministers will continue to assess through the adapted Annual National Programme. Allied Leaders have reaffirmed that they will be in a position to extend an invitation to Ukraine to join the Alliance when Allies agree and conditions are met.

16. We fully support Ukraine’s right to choose its own security arrangements and decide its own future, free from outside interference. Ukraine’s future is in NATO. Ukraine has become increasingly interoperable and politically integrated with the Alliance. We welcome the concrete progress Ukraine has made since the Vilnius Summit on its required democratic, economic, and security reforms. As Ukraine continues this vital work, we will continue to support it on its irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership. We reaffirm that we will be in a position to extend an invitation to Ukraine to join the Alliance when Allies agree and conditions are met. The Summit decisions by NATO and the NATO-Ukraine Council, combined with Allies’ ongoing work, constitute a bridge to Ukraine’s membership in NATO. Allies will continue to support Ukraine’s progress on interoperability as well as additional democratic and security sector reforms, which NATO Foreign Ministers will continue to assess through the adapted Annual National Programme.

It says when allies agree and conditions are met nato membership is on the agenda. However there are disagreements with allies about the issue. Also nato agreement prohibits a new member that is in active conflict with another state. Ceasefire does not mean finishing of active conflict. Membership draws nato directly into active war activating article 5 with Russia unless active conflict ends.

Ukraine ceding territory to Russia recognizing them as Russia for nato membership is an option but Zelensky cannot do this by himself. A referandum would be necessary and Russia will not accept that ending the ceasefire.

lol you are the one who talked about an agreement that did not exist. I am quoting the person who negotiates the entire protocol with NATO. Now whether or not is his point of view is important is another issue; if his point of view is important, Putin wouldn't be in power to begin with, because the Socialist Regime would remain unchanged and the Soviet Union would never had disintegrated in 1991.

On the other hand, you can say whatever the hell you want, that does not mean it's fact, and in fact, the only thing you said is "I am Indian and I supported Putin" which first of all, if you read any of my post in this thread alone, you have to be dumb, blind and stupid to think I supported Putin

Second of all, the conflict has nothing to do with NATO moving Eastward or expansion, unless Putin is that stupid and can't see that starting a war with Ukraine would most definitely drag Finland and Sweden (to a lesser extent, Moldova) into NATO, thus allowing NATO to expand further Eastward. NATO was NEVER a point in this war, he wanted the resources Ukraine had. This war is a typical land grab, same as how or why the Americans invaded Iraq. Just this time, Putin doesn't want oil; he wants REM and Grain.

What could have happened to Russia had Gorbachev stayed in power or went to sky is irrelevant. I'm telling you what Putin says and has been saying BEFORE attacking Ukraine.

Doesn't mean he's right and you can just attack a sovereign country but that's been his narrative. Older US administration personnel have mentioned that there was an agreement but it wasn't backed by national guarantees, meaning it wasn't a "binding agreement".

I'll ignore your post on this topic from this post onwards. You need deep research on NATO's post meeting statements, etc, to know both side's stance.

This is from your statement above. Turkey doesn't want to back it up either but Europe has a hundred things to offer to Turkey, just like in case of Poland, etc. So Turkey will say yes. Ukraine is "mentally" already in NATO. One has to be blind to see the reality.

Dozens of billions of weapons are being given to Ukraine by NATO. Recently, Trump disclosed that NATO is paying for Ukraine to get American weapons. NATO is not a bunch of charity countries. It's goals are different. When sit at Russia's literal doors, it puts a direct threat to Moscow. It can decimate major Russian cities in the case of a war within 2-4 minutes while Russian weapons will take 6-10 minutes to hit the heart of NATO and go through 3-4 layers of advance AD's.

The main reason of nato membership unavailability for Ukraine is not members common approval which can become easy through time as you said.

Nato agreement indirectly prohibits a new member that is in active conflict with another state. Membership draws nato directly into active war activating article 5 with Russia unless active conflict ends with Ukraine.

Ceasefire will not finish the active conflict but only freeze it somewhat like North-South Korea. Only if Ukraine cedes territories to Russia accepting the areas as Russian then with new borders Ukraine can join Nato. However an Ukranian referandum(or zelenskys direct approval which is difficult) for the new Ukranian boundaries without non-Nato membership legal assurance from Ukraine means that after the passing of the new borders Ukraine will immediately join Nato. So it will be unaccaptable by Russia finishing the ceasefire and conflict starts again. So it wont happen.

I was a US Army Intelligence Officer working with NATO during my time in the army, specifically with respect to Link 16 and Link 3 capabilities. I think I know NATO better than you do. And thus now, you have SUPPLIED NOTHING with reference and only your word.

But then you think I am an Indian (Which is a first) and I supported Putin, that's everything I need to know.

The first high-quality footage of strikes by new Russian kamikaze drones "Harpia-A1" on a group of Ukrainian equipment, the 104th separate territorial defense brigade of the Ukrainian army. The video was filmed near the village of Orlovka in the Sumy region of Ukraine. The Harpia-A1 UAV has a similar design to the Geran-2 UAV, presumably, it surpasses it in technical characteristics.
The Harpia-A1 UAV is equipped with optical-electronic sensors that ensure effective target recognition even in conditions of strong electronic interference.
There is no technical information about the drone yet.

Mirage 2000 is not that old. It's a 1980s plane. Oh well. 1 gone. Still 4 remaining.

I would like to say improper training was the cause of this crash

It's a full scale war unlike a single encounter. People lose jets. Russians have also lost an unusually high number. Nothing wrong with the Ukrainians, they fly fine.
Losing an f-16 against russia is an achievement in itself…. Specially when you have that big of a country deep strategic depth…
