Saudi Arabia has announced the execution of two Bangladeshi nationals after they were found guilty of engaging in a segxwal act inside a mosque in the holy city of Mecca.

According to a statement released by the Saudi Ministry of Interior on Wednesday, the individuals were identified as Nazrul Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akhtar.

The ministry said the pair were arrested by security authorities following the incident, after which they were formally charged. Following investigations, both were sentenced and subsequently executed, the statement confirmed.

Siti is a female name in Bangladesh.

I find it hard to understand why they thought that performing carnal acts in a mosque in Saudi Arabia (of all places...) would not end this way... unbelieveable.

Female according to news reports I read. This couple must have had a death wish if the allegations are true
very doubtful act

1) The Saudi govt didn't reveal the couple's crime

2) Saudi govt didn't allow them to meet the bangladeshi ambassador or relative

3) Saudi authorities didn't inform the bangldeshi ambassy, also not inform relatives of the couple

4) didn't handover the body of couple

this scene creates a very doubtful scenario

Yes, I doubt we are getting the full story. Saudis are well known for their lack of transparency in these kinds of matters. Authoritarian state and fundamentalist Wahhabi belief system.
Saudi authorities would never dare execute American citizens over these petty crimes. Most of the time, the executions I’ve heard about involve Bangladeshi or Pakistani citizens.

What a shameful statement by the Bangladeshi minister. Whatever they did, the two Bangladeshi citizens were entitled to due process and consular access. Do you think the Saudis would have done the same if those involved had American passports ?

They wont even dare touch an American Citizen they never did

According to reports from the European‑Saudi Organisation for Human Rights and other monitors, Saudi Arabia executed 101 foreign nationals in 2024, the largest number in the kingdom’s history. The breakdown included:

  • Pakistan – 21 executions
  • Yemen – 20 executions
  • Syria – 14 executions
  • Nigeria – 10 executions
  • Egypt – 9 executions
  • Others from Jordan, Ethiopia, and other South Asian and African countries.
This makes Pakistanis the single nationality most frequently executed in the kingdom’s recent records.

Americans and Europeans are far more sophisticated and savvy , they know the the redlines and seldom cross them.

Its a convenient myth pushed by people who have never set foot in Saudi Arabia and watched how American citizens are actually treated.

The laws on morality are same for everyone in theory. What differs is the cost of enforcing them. An American passport carries diplomatic weight, media scrutiny, economic leverage, and the realistic threat of political fallout. American troops openly ignore Shariah law under full diplomatic immunity, and even ordinary American civilians enjoy de facto immunity. Saudi authorities calculate that risk carefully. A Bangladeshi or Pakistani migrant worker does not. That is not sophistication; that is unequal power.

Westerners, especially Americans, almost never face real consequences for crossing those same red lines. At most they get quietly deported. The system does not arrest them in any serious way, does not make them serve time, and certainly does not push them toward the execution chamber. That complete reluctance has nothing to do with cultural awareness and everything to do with the passport they hold and the government that stands behind it.

Treating the disparity as proof of superior savvy is just a softer way of saying “some lives are cheaper to take.”

I searched the internet to find out whether any Indian had ever been executed in Saudi Arabia for such so-called immorality-related offences, and I was relieved to find no verified case of an Indian being executed for these reasons.

I don't know whether this is because of the Indian government's intervention or because Indians simply don't cross that line. Whatever the reason, it's good to know this.

Did not look that hard did you?

Anyone going to Saudi Arabia should be very careful in carrying their luggage. Little careless at some airport where stuff can be stealthily inserted into your luggage by smugglers can be very costly if detected by the Saudi authorities.

Just a few weeks ago, I flew from Canada into America. During the luggage inspection part, my carry on was pulled aside and the officer took out stuff and to my surprise was going through the toiletries and was carefully examining my beach flipflops! The only conclusion I could draw was maybe in the shared shower area of the hostel, some people's drugs left a trace of some drugs on my flipflops; the flipflops were still a little wet as I had showered not long ago.
