Leonardo can only convert 2 platforms into LRMPA at a time.
So PN had no use for the ac n handed it to PAF for vip duties I think.
But as I had said earlier when this decision was made that PN should have gone for airbus ...either the 319 or 320. N that would give PN space n the freedom to operate the ac freely.

If PAF + PN + PA would have a combined/ joint Surveillance Command and with pooled resources, they could have hand-picked a BRAND-NEW PLATFORM from any manufacturer for the LRMPA, MPA or General Surveillance Role. We would not have any logistics issues like we are having today

Since the office of CDF aims to combine the efforts of all the services for warfighting, surveillance should be a shared area as well. CDF office should spearhead integration and combined MDO execution by all services. Therefore all the surveillance asset should be cross deployable and feeds should feed into a single network.
The army, in particular, doesn't seem to care much about Jet powered special purpose/surveillance aircraft since past responsibilities merely included battlefield surveillance, aptly achieved by King Air derivatives. Now with the evolving battlespace and the new ARFC, surveillance will be an integral part for Army operations as well.
