A humanoid robot in China has gone viral after appearing to beg for money on a sidewalk.

The machine, believed to be a Unitree G1 robot, was filmed kneeling with its hands pressed together beside a donation plate and a QR code for digital payments. It reportedly displayed messages like, “No money to recharge” and “Please help with electricity bills,” leaving passersby both amused and confused.

Some people dropped coins into the plate, while others scanned the QR code. But no one has confirmed whether it was a publicity stunt, performance art, or a genuine fundraising attempt.

Whatever the purpose, the video has sparked a bigger conversation: as robots become more human-like, the line between technology, entertainment, and everyday life is getting harder to distinguish.
