My family and others went out to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, etc. back in 1978. Total of five families, all pulling RVs.

I recommend driving overnight, pulling into truck stops for a rest, and keep moving on.

When you see the Bighorn mountains up ahead, don't get too excited, you still have hundreds of miles to go.

Avoid major cities during rush hour, otherwise you will be wasting your vacation sitting in traffic jams (especially, Atlanta, Cincinnati and Indianapolis).

If you want to enjoy the mountains, whether Appalachia, or out west, you need to get yourself in shape.

And break in a pair of good hiking boots.

You want to be able to walk a minimum of ten miles a day, with a backpack. The best places will be off the beaten path.

If money was not a limiting factor, this is how I will travel nowadays, if traveling alone....

So for past couple of weeks I've been looking and researching RV campers, not the big ones but small 2-3 sleepers ones. I picked a couple of them i.e Coleman 13B/R's that offers a bed, Bathroom, small kitchen area and plenty of storage, but its dry weight is 2500+/- lbs, and upon searching I found out that my Hyundai Tucson 2022 can only tow up to 2000lbs with proper stuff installed, right now my car doesn't have anything install in it. So I started looking to replace my car, now I love Toyota highlander but its very expensive, and will be hard on my budget, so i came across this Audii Q7 Quattro and its listed towing capacity is 4400lbs which is pretty good for a mid-size SUV, but I don't have any experience with Audii cars, I did some reddit search and people has said some very good reviews about this SUV and its power. I thought about getting some Truck like Ford 150, or Toyota Tacoma or Silvardo but this Audii seems very good when it comes to provide luxury, options, towing capacity, price is decent, and I find plenty with low mileage in the market near me.

does anyone of you ever own a RV camper ? or Audii Q7 Quattro ? Will it be a good investment to get a RV camper for road trips? cause I plan on hitting the road next year to explore Mid-west and West Coast of USA.

we go glamping instead. I know its a lazy solution and we are resticted to camping sites with limited pods but there is that. one of them days I might buy a van and convert one as a sleeper but we will see.

1990 Dodge Ram extended van, travel package.

This was my choice twenty years ago, traveling from place to place...

Every other day, took a nice shower at a truck stop.
this makes a sleak conversion for a camper van. back in covid years .. there was a trend of converting vans into stealth or overt campers. this will do just fine even without a conversion if the seats in the back can be leveled and all you need is a blanket and a pillow for occasional night sleep over. then just visit a patrol station for tiolet and some snaks etc.

Stealth, or incognito is what you want. I traveled all across the eastern half of the United States for five years in that van. There were nights, I pulled into a rest area, or truck stop, got a good sleep, and moved on.

The back two seats folded down into the most comfortable full sized bed I ever owned.

If I were to do this again, this will be the type of van I will consider a diy conversion.

One can go just about anywhere, stop just about anywhere, without anyone noticing.

Mileage seems a little high for a 5 year old vehicle. Found some Tacomas with half that.

But I get your point.
