Syrian Civil War and The future of Syria after liberation

It is amazing what Turkey has done to this forces in just 4 years and also Idlib itself. When people started visiting Idlib they were shocked to find Idlib so modern, with luruxy malls, better economy etc etc.. They were militias but became professional due to extensive training, military doctrine training, drone usage training, structures like divisions, attachments etc etc including weapon development as they have been trained to build their own drones, ammo and armored trucks.

BEIRUT (AP): The wife and daughter of one of deposed Syrian president Bashar Assad’s cousins were arrested Friday at the Beirut airport, where they attempted to fly out with allegedly forged passports, Lebanese judicial and security officials said. Assad’s uncle departed the day before.

Rasha Khazem, the wife of Duraid Assad — the son of former Syrian Vice President Rifaat Assad, the uncle of Bashar Assad — and their daughter, Shams, were smuggled illegally into Lebanon and were trying to fly to Egypt when they were arrested, according to five Lebanese officials familiar with the case. They were being detained by Lebanese General Security. Rifaat had flown out the day before on his real passport and was not stopped, the officials said.

Ankara (AFP): Nearly 31,000 Syrians have returned home since the fall of Bashar al-Assad, Turkey’s interior minister said Friday, the figure rising by about 5,000 in just three days.

“The number of people who went back is 30,663,” Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya told TGRT news channel, saying “30 percent” of them had been born in Turkey.

Turkey is home to nearly three million refugees who fled Syria after the start of the civil war in 2011, with the fall of Bashar al-Assad raising hopes many would go back.

On Tuesday, Yerlikaya said more than 25,000 Syrians had returned in remarks to state news agency Anadolou, saying they would be allowed to leave and re-enter Turkey three times in the first half of 2025.

Ankara would also open “a migration management office” in Aleppo, Syria’s second city, where most of the refugees living in Turkey are from, he said Friday, without giving further details.

BEIRUT (Reuters): Rifaat al-Assad, an uncle of the ousted Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad charged in Switzerland with war crimes over the bloody suppression of a revolt in 1982, has flown from Beirut to Dubai in recent days, two Lebanese security officials said on Friday.

The officials said that “many members” of the al-Assad family had travelled to Dubai from Beirut and others had stayed in Lebanon since al-Assad was toppled on Dec. 8. Lebanese authorities had not received Interpol requests to arrest them, including Rifaat, the officials said.

The Lebanese officials said they did not know if Rifaat or the other al-Assad family members intended to stay in Dubai or travel elsewhere.
