Newsweek, according to a UN diplomat:
- The United Nations force reinforced a number of its positions during the past 24 hours in the #Golan Heights
The Israeli army transferred forces to the area, which restricted the movement of peacekeeping forces in the Golan
The movement of United Nations disengagement monitoring forces in the Golan is severely restricted in the current context

Biggest problem is non aligned foreign policy, all other things are less problematic.
I would also say arrogance and internal rivalries but this is typical of all leadership and deep states. In Europe/West/democracies the constant tyrant is the state bureaucracy or in the US the industrial military complex. Regardless of democrats or republicans or political parties those institutions largely stay the same.

@hyperman

Politics are dirty, I agree and I don't like the role of UAE in the region of late under MbZ. But remember, Dubai is just 1 city in UAE with mostly foreigners. There are Emirates in the UAE that are conservative and Islamic, very peaceful and who mind their own business. Sharjah, Fujairah, Ajman etc.

As I see it it is mostly just one man (MbZ). His father was one of the most respected rulers in the region for a reason.

Anyway UAE and Turkey have buried the hatched.

Look at the portrayals of official Turkish media:

MbZ won't rule forever (if he does not change from now on). What UAE is doing (IMO) is not sustainable or in their best interests although it might appear like that given their objective success (economic, geopolitical etc.) But what do I know, many different opinions in this regard and the future is difficult to predict.

As for Syria, the UAE has already met with the Syrian opposition and established ties. I think that they will definitely be investing in Syria and Syrians will need all the investments that they can get.

My friend, do you have a short memory? The territory that Israel has taken were guarded/"protected" by the SAA and Russians. Both of those left without a fight? Why? How is that the fault of the Syrian opposition when they did not even have any forces there? We are talking about some mountains with no permanent population. Look at the Israeli videos. Barren mountains.

Did you expect Iraqis in 2003 after the fall of Saddam to somehow expel a potential Israeli annexation of say areas of Al-Anbar next to Ar-Rutbah? It makes nonsense.
I don't know how serious the Syrian opposition is about fighting Israel. But it is clear that Israel takes this threat seriously, because Israel continues to attack Syrian weapons depots and violate its borders. And I think that in the long run, HTS and its leaders will be eliminated by the US and Israel themselves.

Yes, the Turkey vs UAE fight ended in a statemate(or Turkey won in some areas or UAE in others, depending on opinions)

Turkey changed course b/c the situation required it and there was risk of being cornered on multiple fronts out of the tension, so Turkey made peace, but no one has forgotten how brazen Bin Zayed was in actually trying to support a coup inside Turkey or his other schemes, for now Turkey just moves past it, like the tensions with Russia where they killed Turkish soldiers in an airstrike.

Syria as a whole do not have the capability to fight Israel after 13 years of civil war. Just like Iraq did not have such capability in say 2017, after 14 years of war and conflict.

This depends on how they will govern, if they will reform (which they most likely will -as they have already done so), if they will remove the problematic elements within their ranks and their allies and if they make the right geopolitical moves. Not sure about what the future power sharing arrangements will be either. Hard to tell.

Israel is looking out for its own interests. They see Hezbollah (outside of Hamas) as their biggest threat and are acting accordingly with the full support of the US/West.

Syria should do the same, focus on their own interests before anything else.

So if the new Syria is forced to at least have non-hostile ties with Israel as they recover and develop, then they should definitely do that when nobody else is going to declare a war on Israel and fight them directly. So we should not have unrealistic expectations for Syria.

Out of curiosity, how real was the UAE support for the coup in 2016. Do we have any actual solid evidence? Also what was the reason for the hostility to begin with as far back as 2016? From what I recall UAE and Turkey were on the same page in Syria during that time. There was no trouble in Sudan. Libya was also a largely new "thing". So what the hell was going on?

I mean it reminds me of the rumors of Erdogan wanting to use the MB to remove certain Arab leaders.

Now that I recall those old events, I think it all began in Egypt when the Egyptian military and partially the people helped create 2 revolutions within 2 years, firstly the removal of Mubarak and later the removal of Morsi.

I think the 2011-2015 years (Arab Spring, numerous revolutions, rise of ISIS) were the hight of tension in the region.
