Taiwan's Expulsion from the UN in 1971

The expulsion of Taiwan from the UN in 1971, following Resolution 2758, marked a pivotal moment in global politics. Driven by diplomatic maneuvers and shifting alliances, the decision reflected the rise of the People's Republic of China and reshaped international relations, leaving Taiwan in isolation and impacting global power dynamics.

(25 Oct 1971) Events during the passing of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 (also known as the Resolution on Admitting Peking), a resolution recognizing the Beijing-based PRC (People’s Republic of China) as sole Chinese delegation to the United Nations, and rejecting the ROC (Republic of China) which governs from Taiwan, and claims itself as the only true representative of China. Upon the vote in favour of the PRC, the ROC Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that they would have no further part in proceedings and all ROC delegates left the hall.

George Bush Reacts To Taiwan Being Kicked Out Of The United Nations

Former president George Bush Sr. discusses the decision to kick Taiwan out of the UN.

Can't believe that a small island represented the whole China in UN for several decades, so bizarre.

Well... it was a tragic chapter in Taiwan’s history....

Later, in 1979, the US officially established diplomatic relations with mainland China and severed diplomatic ties with Taiwan (ROC)......
