Tempest | the UK's Next Generation Fighter | Updates & Discussions

If the British government is unwilling to sign a long-term investment agreement for this project, then it's already clear that the British have long been in private discussions with the Americans, preparing to switch to the F47 project and abandon the unreliable GCAP 5.5 Generation project.

Since Tempest will not be flown from British carriers it’s a replacement for UKs F35
Ministry of defence has no choice but to purchase the US made f47 jet that can be launched from a carrier to fill this critical gap for the U.K. navy. Tempest is ground launch jet lol what a waste of money.

F47 or any other conventional launch aircraft cannot launch from British aircraft carriers, only f35B can launch with its thrust vectoring. Even the F-35C cannot launch from the British Aircraft carrier. A poor design choice imho, but that ship has sailed.

Somehow the Indian accs are having some huge discussion over this topic.

They are having huge discussions because the Indians always viewed the FCAS as something they could buy in the future as their 6th generation platform.

Germany and France have announced the cancellation of the FCAS program! So, how long can the GCAP program continue?

There is more to suggest that the GCAP programme will progress to completion than not right now.

The issue right now is the bureaucrats of the UK MOD which is delaying the prgramme in light of the 30000th "UK Defense Review" and all projects and procurements get delayed when they do that, it is not just the GCAP that is being affected. There has been no political movement against the GCAP programme or it's costs, it is quite the opposite given what is going on in Ukraine. It is the bureaucrats being bureaucrats unfortunately.

Both Canada, and Australia have also emerged as countries that have indicated an interest to purchase the GCAP platform and to also contribute technologically to the platform(given that the workshare has been allocated, this will be an interesting discussion as both Italy and Japan have said they do not want this to be reopened to ensure the project remains on time and on track without new horse trading).

Time will tell, but reading the political situation in the UK, I do think GCAP will progress to completion. There is too much of the UK aerospace industry riding on it for it to not.

The Tempest Combat Air Flying Demonstrator is scheduled to take its first test flight by 2027 with manufacturing in progress right now, so that will establish facts on the ground that will be difficult for the government to stall on, especially given how important it is to Japan, a key ally and investor in the UK.

Some pictures of some component manufacturing as early as 2025 :

Either Gcap or Fcas will.end up indian sub continent I'm.certain post 2045
The are serious discussions over both fighters due to the0 rapid development of chinease sixth generation technology

Russia is too far behind china and USA
USA can't be relied Up
That leaves Europe as the only viable option
The EU wants the Indian market as seen recently as it's alternative to USA or China
I see one or the other arriving
History proves this
Hunters
Canberra
Mysetre
Harrier
Jaguar
Mirage 2000
Rafales

Have all served in India
So will Gcap or Fcas
Just question of which one how many and when

Well FCAS is dead. Maybe the French can build something on their own ( though if people think the combined efforts of the UK, Japan and Spain cannot, then how can France do it alone).

So start praying to a new idol of either the GCAP or some Frenchie solution ?

France's entire goal was to get out of the FCAS negotiations without looking like they're at fault, so they could build and own the fighter exclusively.

France does have the tech base to build a 6th gen, the only issue they face is funding, as a 6th gen has a far higher cost than 5th gen.

France has no economic muscle to design, build and compete against the rest of the world for a 6gen aircraft. And if they do it will be small and lighter compared to what you´re witnessing in China or US.

And Germany won´t do it. They don´t have tech to do it. MTU, Airbus or whatever the name they have right now they didn´t designed a combat aircrafts for decades.

As usual, europeans doing europeans. Spaniards are the truly victims, we were well commited to pay and help a major builder to make a 6Gen.

Somos gilipollas. En fin. Let it go.

Welcome to China.

Both CAC and SAC are publicly traded companies. You could consider purchasing enough shares to secure a board seat as a shareholder.

France had the 7th largest gdp in n the world
Twice the size of Russia
It's technology is the best outside of USA period
French planes have dominated the world for six decades

If France can't do it no one bar USA or China can period

French can and will build a late future generation platform of fighters and unmanned drones for sure
And will.make hundreds of billions in revenue in the process from.
India
Saudi
Kuwait
Qatar
UAE
And euro market too
