It can't haul the same cargo even fourth of the way of a diesel and when diesel runs out it only takes 10 min to fill up whereas tesla semi can take up to an hour.

You are not looking at the big picture. An EV truck can charge in the dock when it is loading and unloading.

While it isn't going to beat diesel in all long range scenarios > 500 miles it can certainly beat it in many short range scenarios - especially on fuel costs. If somebody's job is to drive 8 hours a day doing deliveries from some central warehouse that is well under the 500 mile range. 500/8 = 62mph.

ELON MUSK REQUESTED $100 MILLION FROM THE US GOVERNMENT FOR AN AMBITIOUS NEW PROJECT — HERE’S HIS PLAN

Tesla’s funding approval is expected to come later this year.

Tesla made waves when it delivered on orders of its all-electric semi truck, aptly called the Semi, last year — and now the company may get funding from the American government to build Megacharging stations for them between California and Texas.

The automaker has requested $100 million from the United States government to build nine charging stations for the Semis, according to CleanTechnica and Bloomberg. The stations will be strategically positioned between Northern California and the southern border of Texas. Each station would feature up to eight individual 750-kilowatt chargers, which means eight Semis could charge simultaneously at each of the nine stations.

The company also urged Texas state officials to send requests to the federal government on its behalf to encourage the approval of the funding.

The Semi prototype was unveiled in 2017, but the truck didn’t hit the streets until 2022, when PepsiCo received 15 of the vehicles.

The Semi is the first all-electric sixteen-wheeler to hit the market, per CleanTechnica. To slow the dangerous overheating of our planet, it’s essential that industrial shipping embraces clean energy vehicles like the Semi to curb the amount of pollution we put into the atmosphere as we transport our goods.

In 2015, 49.5 million tons of goods were shipped to and from the United States each day — an amount equivalent to 56 tons per person per year and that requires over a billion barrels of oil, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. While this statistic also includes rail and barge movement, the EPA clarifies that trucks are the quickest-growing contributor to dangerous air pollution.

Tesla Model Y to become Europe’s best-selling car in 2023 – report

The Tesla Model Y looks set to become the first electric vehicle to top Europe’s new-car sales charts across a full year, according to automotive industry reports.

Tesla finally moves forward with Gigafactory Nevada expansion for Tesla Semi and 4680 cells

Tesla finally moved forward with Gigafactory Nevada expansion for Tesla Semi and 4680 cells a year after the original announcement.

Tesla Gigafactory Nevada was the first major step in Tesla’s effort to secure battery cell supply for its ambitious growth.

The automaker partnered with Panasonic to deploy new battery cell production capacity at the facility, and Tesla used those cells to build battery packs for its vehicles and energy storage products.

When originally announcing the plan for the factory, Tesla was talking about the plant producing 105 GWh of battery cells per year and 150 GWh of battery packs per year once completed.

It was supposed to become the largest building in the world.

However, the factory is currently about 30% complete, and Tesla hasn’t expanded the facility for years as both the automaker and Panasonic have focused on optimizing the current production capacity.

Here’s what the factory is supposed to look like once completed (yellow) and the existing sections with Tesla’s operations (red) and Panasonic’s (blue):

Tesla Gigafactory Nevada final version

Tesla hasn’t expanded the footprint of the factory in five years at this point, as it focused on optimizing this one and building new ones that include vertically-integrated vehicle production.

In January 2023, Tesla announced a massive expansion of Gigafactory Nevada to add production of Tesla Semi trucks and 4680 battery cells and to finally expand the factory to its originally planned size.

The goal is to build the Tesla Semi in volume at the plant along with the 4680 battery cell, which powers the electric truck and new Tesla vehicles.

Tesla released this updated image of the planned final plant:

The company is generally known to move quickly after such announcements, but it didn’t do anything for a year.

Today, we learn that Tesla is finally starting to get some construction, or at least earth-moving, work done for the Gigafactory Nevada expansion.

Youtuber ‘Zanegler Tesla Semi Stalker’ posted a new drone flyby of the factory and in the video, he claimed that Tesla held a “groundbreaking ceremony” for the expansion on Wednesday.

We couldn’t confirm that, but the video does show Tesla moving ground for some construction work:

However, it doesn’t look like Tesla is working on the previously announced expansion with new sections of the existing building.

The new work is being done outside of the originally planned area:

It’s possible that Tesla is working on the land for a new parking lot as it will need to move the existing one if it goes through with these plans.

The Youtuber said that Tesla told employees at the groundbreaking event that the new section for Tesla Semi is actually going to be a new building separate to the existing one, but we can’t confirm that.

Either way, some work is at least being done.

Last year, we reported that Tesla hired a new manufacturing executive from Eli Lily to lead its elusive Gigafactory Nevada expansion. It’s possible that the plans have changed a lot since then.

Tesla FSD Beta v12.1.2 rolls out to customers

Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD)version 12.1.2 is rolling out to customers. The new update promises significant progress for Tesla’s self-driving software.

According to the release notes of Tesla FSD v. 12.1.2:

“FSD Beta v12 upgrades the city streets’ driving stack to a single end-to-end neural network trained on millions of video clips, replacing over 300k lines of explicit C++ code.”

Customers who have already tested FSD Beta version 12.1.2 on the road shared that the update significantly improves Tesla’s autonomous software. Many FSD Beta testers have reported smoother driving experiences with FSD Beta v12.1.2 with zero interventions, no takeovers, or awkward moments.

“This car will never get into a collision if you turn this thing on, even in unstructured environments,” said Dhaval Shroff. Shroff likened Tesla FSD Beta v12 to ChatGPT for cars.

In December, Elon Musk noted that version 12 needed more training under heavy precipitation areas before being released to customers. It would be interesting to see if version 12.12 has improved FSD Beta’s performance under heavy precipitation areas.

Musk also stated that FSD Beta v12 will lose the “beta” in its name, marking a momentous step for Tesla autonomous software.

v12 rolling out

v12 rolling out

Tesla has expanded its Full Self-Driving Beta program by releasing the first public version of FSD Beta 12.1.2 to a select group of non-employee Tesla owners. This version is notable for its use of an end-to-end neural network, which is expected to greatly improve Tesla's advanced driver assist system (ADAS). The neural network, trained on millions of video clips, replaces much of the previous explicit C++ coding, improving the system's capability to handle complex driving situations. While Elon Musk had suggested that version 12 would see FSD coming out of beta, the release notes still label it as beta.

Tesla previously released FSD Beta v12 internally, including v12, v12.1, and v12.1.1, but v12.1.2 is the first to be available to non-employees. OG FSD Beta tester, and Tesla influencer, @WholeMarsBlog received this newest release last night and has already published his video (below).

Early Feedback & Tempering Expectations

Early reports say that FSD Beta v12 is more intuitive and drives more human-like. The feedback appears to be overwhelmingly positive, although it’s not uncommon for owners to get excited about such a monumental release that we’ve been looking forward to for many months. We may need to temper our expectations as this release alone won’t get us to level 4 or even level 3 autonomy, but it could be a significant step in the right direction. It could be as significant to vehicle control as when Tesla first transitioned to using AI for Autopilot.

Early reports say that there is a noticeable improvement in how the vehicle handles urban driving scenarios. The smoother transitions and quicker response times appear to contribute to a more comfortable and human-like driving experience. This shouldn’t be unexpected, as vehicle control is now trained on videos of humans driving instead of engineer-written code.

New Pull-Over Feature

A notable feature of FSD Beta v12.1.2 is its ability to pull over to the side of the road autonomously, a functionality showcased in Musk's live stream. At the end of a drive, the vehicle will now pull over to the site of the road instead of simply stopping. WholeMarsBlog shows off this feature in action in his video below:

Release Notes

For such a milestone release, Tesla hasn’t provided much information in the way of release notes. Each FSD Beta release normally contains a long list of technical release notes, which often need to be translated for everyone to understand. However, this time we get a single sentence that describes FSD Beta v12. The release notes simply state:

“FSD Beta v12 upgrades the city-streets driving stack to a single end-to-end neural network trained on millions of video clips, replacing over 300k lines of explicit C++ code.”

Road Ahead and Release Date

A clearer picture of FSD Beta v12.1.2 and its real-world performance will emerge as more Tesla owners receive the update and share their feedback. It will be interesting to see how the system handles diverse driving conditions, especially in areas with heavy precipitation, a scenario Elon Musk mentioned needing more training.

While this public release is monumental, the release to additional owners is expected to be a gradual and slow process. It could be months before most owners have access to this latest update. Tesla will likely gather feedback with this release and issue additional v12 betas to ignore other issues and improve the system.

While Tesla continues to innovate and refine its FSD technology, it is crucial to remember that the software is still in beta. The transition to full autonomy is a complex and gradual process, requiring rigorous testing and validation. However, with each update like v12.1.2, Tesla moves closer to realizing its vision of fully autonomous vehicles.

Well the universe is full of sh*t cars and all it takes is to just be a little less sh*tty than everybody else.

Tesla Model Y to be #1 selling car model in world for 2023

Tesla Model Y outsells all of China's sh*t cars (including gasoline) to be #1 in China for 2023.
Model-4.png

Tesla Model Y projected to be the top selling car in Europe for 2023

So Tesla's big help is the rest of the Universe is even worse...especially in China and Europe.

Tesla Model Y not #1 in US and Canada though. May not even be in the top 5 for sales.
May be I am blind but seems BYD outsells Tesla several times over

Its either me or you need prescription glasses

Its either me or you need prescription glasses

It's you. You can't see I'm dealing with an intentional thread troller.

BTW Renault sells more cars every year than BYD. You think they are better than BYD? So does Suzuki. How does Renault/Suzuki selling more cars than BYD make them better? Explain your logic.
