It is also rumored that Shastri - much more astute than Nehru IMO - offered a resolution to Kashmir to Ayub in return for dropping the claims to Junagardh and Hyderabad -

Patel, not Shastri. It was not a rumour, he made a public speech to that effect. And this happened after Indian troops had landed on Srinagar and were gradually gaining an upper hand. It was a monumental blunder on Jinnah (otherwise a great man) part.
