Something about the relationship hasn't felt right for a while now and from a common sense perspective 4 separate incidents (there may be many more) show what type of relationship America has with India.
1. America (rubio) tells India without indian knowledge that Venezuelans are coming and will sell oil to India. Indians are taken aback with this but goes through with it anyway.
2. America allows India to buy oil from russia for a set period of time. This is like a parent allowing a child to play with his school friends for a set amount of time.
3. America bombs unarmed Iranian ship in Indian EEZ and Indians are too afraid to even rescue the sailors that they were just training with a few days ago. Sri Lanka had to save the sailors.
4. America deputy finance security tells India with Modi in the room that America will not allow India to grow like it did with china. This is saying that we will keep you poor and unable to compete forever. India did not respond to this even with all the high officials in the room.
Now you may say one incident is an outlier but many incidents definitely show a pattern. America demonstrates that it treats India with absolutely no respect and there is no equal level partnership. Unlike GCC countries whom America treats like likeable vassals, America treats India in the same way but with less respect. India in the eyes of America is a vassal state that needs to stay poor, know its place and does what its told. Meanwhile India media is talking about equal partnership.
