If it's something that's going to be inducted in the hundreds, it's worth developing it locally.
We never had hundreds of basic trainers, no need for that many.
IAF has 74 PC-7s.
Turks (air force about same size as AF) had 50 Hurkus
It's an intermediate trainer, something that can replace both T-38s and eventually even K-8s
T-38?
"Intermediate" has always been a strange one I think. Different air forces seem to have different approaches here
Some do
Primary-Basic-Advanced then straight to OCU
Some do
Primary-Basic - Straight to front line (often by air forces who do not have many high end fighters)
Some do
Primary-Basic-Intermediate-LIFT (Or Fighter conversion as it was once called)
Unsure what the right thing is for PAF. As transport/helicopter/VIP part of PAF is very small vis a vis other air forces (and Pak Army does chopper training for PN/PAF anyway)
Basically our entire training system is designed to produce fighter pilots, while other systems have to produce also multi-engined and chopper pilots on a large scale. That makes PAF some what unique (only other country like this is maybe Israel, Scandics and maybe Taiwan).

By December 2025, Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) completed the delivery of all 52 MFI-395 Super Mushshak basic trainer aircraft ordered by Türkiye in 2016 during the IDEAS Defence Fair in Karachi.Does anyone have a update on this please. I know atleast between 6-12 examples were delivered.
