It's a simple matter of demand and supply. There are more travelers than available seats. The obvious solution is to increase the number of trains, but the basic infrastructure is barely adequate to support the existing services. A massive infrastructure overhaul is urgently needed.
The silver lining is projects such as the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), closed-loop regional transit systems like the Delhi--Meerut RRTS, and, to some extent, the new expressways. These projects will certainly help take some load off the existing rail network.


No but there is a massive rail development work that has happened,

Trains are not only interstate trains. We have world class metros in 20 odd cities now. Plus RRTS. plus brand new train sets like vande bharat thst have massively increased comfort. Plus airport style railway station redevelopment.

Theres hardly any other vountry right now where the massive revamping is taking place.

However, most of the time, when the distance between two locations exceeds 1200km, airfares are highly likely to be lower than high-speed rail fares. The greater the distance, the more pronounced the price advantage of airfares becomes.

Yeah hut it can be argued hsr has bettrr economic value all around because instead of burning away all that money in aviation fuel, you are using kost of it to build ground infra znd jobs.

Old rakes still exist though. I wonder how we can get rid of those old diesel engines.
Diesel engines will be needed in wartime/ emergency situation.

Thousands of those should be mothballed-preserved. Many of locos will be turned into electric ones too. Sell some in Africa/BD.

Tbh I hated this paint scheme. Chapri design and colour schemes. VB saffron - white was way better, the polar express like Kashmir trains looked great too.
